Economics Not Culture Wars Drove Most Trump Voters — Paul Jay interviews Thomas Ferguson

The notion that racism and sexism were the primary factors driving the Trump vote is not born out by the data, economics was very important too. The rural working-class found their lives a little better under Trump and don’t believe the Democrats care about them. Will Biden address the inequality or bend to the demands of Wall Street? Thomas Ferguson joins Paul Jay on theAnalysis.news podcast....

  1. Won’t be recognized by the Trump Derangement Syndrome people...

  2. These can’t be so simply separated. Too many of these people rely on easy, old ways of examining the world, which just simply aren’t accurate. They know they are being left out but their answer is to try and take back something from some demonized others like women, minorities, immigrants, instead of recognizing the truth. No one has stolen their jobs. Proper policy can keep them AND those “others” gainfully employed.

It’s not just a coincidence that all the followers are white/male and the biggest demons are nonwhite/female. It’s a culture war too.

Matt, you think all those millions of Americans lining up for food every day -- you think most are Trumpsters?

What about the over quarter of a million dead due to the Trump's administration feeble/ negligent handling of the pandemic -- you think most would have voted for the reality tv clown?

    Serious questions, Matt.

One in six Americans could go hungry in 2020 as pandemic persists

  6. [off topic, so apologies in advance :) ]

The positive hype regarding Apple's M1 chip on the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro? All true. Intel should start sweating.

But here's the the thing... don't buy any of the Macbooks yet. Why? Apple is not done yet. Next thing coming soon is the hardware -- they are getting, because they should, a complete redesign. I mean, just look at the macbook's large, dated bezels

Also stay away from all the ipads. Why? Because the next generation chip, the A14chip, is only on the ipad air and the others like the ipad pro should be getting it soon.

Also, if you do decide to buy an ipad, make it the ipad pro with its 120hz monitor, once the pro gets the A14 chip of course, which should be any month now ;) Why not the ipad air that already has an A14 chip? It's because it has a 60hz monitor -- the writing/drawing experience of the apple writing pencil sucks on a 60hz monitor. Interestingly enough, Samsung's "Galaxy Tab S6 lite" tablet with its 60hz screen, notwithstanding it's an android tablet, is much better at drawing/note taking with their s4 stylus. I know because I tried them both. Why don't i consider a samsung tablet? we got iphones in my home, so synchronicity ;)

That was my black friday, xmas shopping tech advice ;)

Can I get a pair of those glasses?

Governor Cuomo received an Emmy for his incompetence... so I guess the answer is yes, people will vote for leaders who don't know what they're doing.

If Trump had kept his big mouth/twitter shut, blame for the pandemic would have fallen on state leadership. The buck stops there.

It's going to be fun watching whom they blame next, as the US continues to go down the drain under Biden/Harris.

  8. You're right on Cuomo, way off on this:

"If Trump had kept his big mouth/twitter shut, blame for the pandemic would have fallen on state leadership. The buck stops there."

So one out of two ain't bad, PP.

    [off topic now]

Forgot to mention the imacs :( As to purchasing one, why? Unless of course you are a geologist and don't really mind rocks, and big ones at that, on your desk, then go for it.

one, they haven't even moved in yet. You could at least wait 'til the marines throw out the reality tv clown and the rest of his circus entourage out of the WH premises first before passing judgment, no?

and two, you think the bread lines will be longer under the new administration? Yes, yes, I know the US is a third-world country in all but in name for the 10s of millions of its citizens.

  10. Is Trump Derangement Syndrome bad?

How do you know if someone has it?

  11. TDS has made lastgreek an apologist for state ineptitude in handling the pandemic. I suppose the situation is similar in Canada, where sufferers of Trudeau Derangement Syndrome blame Ottawa for provincial malfeasance.

TDS makes people look at Joe Biden's cabinet, and interpret that as a positive sign for the future.

Not to mention an unusual craving for brunch...

You don't know what you are talking about, Pan. I never gave Trudeau a pass. From the beginning here I called out Trudeau, as well as Canada's Public Health Officer Theresa Tam, for ineptitude.

But if you think the Canadian response is as bad as the US response, then continue to dream on

  13. The role of Ottawa is to be supportive and hand out checks. Responsibility for public health rests with the provinces; similar to the arrangement in the states. Most of the important policies that are of concern to Canadians, are within provincial jurisdiction.

Trudeau/Trump are bit players in this crisis. The provinces have always wanted jurisdiction over health, along with the federal funding that comes with it. The Feds have wanted to attach strings to that funding, or more recently, to find ways to transfer less to the provinces. Sometimes they agree to transfer taxing powers.

In a perfect world, politicians would receive all of the money and bear none of the responsibility.

  14. Here's one possible Biden game plan:
The damage caused by Trump & Putin will take us 4 years to undo. Be ready to tighten your belts.

  15. No one has stolen their jobs. Greg

Due to government privilege, the banks extend the PUBLIC'S CREDIT but for private gain.

So to the extent that bank "loans" were used to finance automation and off-shoring, those jobs WERE stolen - with the workers' own purchasing power/honest investment opportunity.
