Libertarians should not drive It since Tesla Motors is a partner of NASA. Free market can do better than that.

Pretty awesome.

Who's that who said technological innovation is declining?

how can they afford to give the electricity away for free 'for ever'? Does the $60,000 - $100,000 S-model price tag cover it?

oh, of course: solar power.

"Tesla Motors is a partner of NASA"

Actually I think that's SpaceX. Though Tesla did get a $465 million loan from the government in 2009, which it has since repaid.

is this another case of pubicly subsidized privately profitable?

To what extent does Tesla get to benefit from public resources, e.g. Nasa Research Park, $465 million loan from the government, university research, etc?

jk,

I'm not sure they are profitable yet.... I'd assume not...

But they have a plan...

And yes most businesses benefit from usually previous govt R&D, etc..

Public expenditures LEAD, private sector FOLLOWS...

I dont think these techno-geeks like Musk here are super-heavy libertarians... they have no problem adapting technology for profit no matter whether the govt was responsible for the original research or not...

iow I dont know how Musk here compares to say a Peter Theil...

They are at least not over-the-top libertarians, perhaps they just dont like that we continue to suffer under the thumb of the monopoly rent of opec...

I'm authoritarian and I dont like it either...

Or perhaps they are the current 'petty bugeiouse' (mispelled I know but I'm not looking that word up ;) and just want to "make money" and see an opportunity to build a new business based on a value proposition due to current high petroleum prices...

I any case I think this is a good development...

Look at how simple is the drive train and chassis:

No transmission or engine...

(good-bye more jobs as govt morons will not respond to this development...)
