Raphael Satter — 4 Silk Road Users Arrested In UK With Millions Of Dollars In Bitcoins Seized

So much for Bitcoin as a shield from the reach of the long arm of government.
U.K. authorities have made four arrests following last week's closure of the notorious black market website known as Silk Road, Britain's National Crime Agency said Tuesday, adding that millions of pounds (dollars) worth of electronic currency had been seized.
The agency said the bust happened within hours of the arrest in the United States of the alleged Silk Road administrator Ross Ulbricht, suggesting that authorities may now be targeting the network of drug dealers who made fortunes peddling illicit substances from the Internet bazaar.
The agency's director general Keith Bristow said in a statement that other users of the site would soon feel the heat.
"These latest arrests are just the start; there are many more to come," he said.

As much as I am happy to see the fantasy balloon of Bitcoin deflated somewhat, I hate to see these young people's lives seriously trashed by the consequences of bad choices they made to go down a reckless path.

The online world is part of the real world. You can commit real crimes there, and you aren't then just busted by virtual cops.
