The chief outcome of the shutdown and debt ceiling debacle— with respect to political analysis — is that we now know who the man on the white horse is.
Cruz is the one to watch. He is Sarah Palin on steroids, and it is significant that he recently appeared with her. But he is male, young and smart, and he is determined to become president of "real America" as a populist demagogue.
Kingmaker Jim DeMint has anointed him (not with oil but unlimited funding). DeMint left his safe Senate seat to take over Heritage Foundation and direct the astroturf campaign masquerading as a populist uprising.
These people have a clear vision for America as classical liberal paradise as a cover for a corporate state.
It's based on American exceptionalism, which means the US as leader of the free world, i.e., US transnational corporations in charge of a global economy based on "freedom" i.e., free markets, free trade and free capital flow based on US imposed treaties and no labor bargaining power.
