An economics, investment, trading and policy blog with a focus on Modern Monetary Theory (MMT). We seek the truth, avoid the mainstream and are virulently anti-neoliberalism.
I know we like to flatter ourselves with the thought that the human personality is wonderfully complex, but for me, all of the economic and political conflicts that exist in the world can be expressed, essentially and directly, in one simple little globally acknowledged word: 'GREED' – at the basis of which is ‘IGNORANCE’ (which usually means ignoring the obvious).
In the animal world, instinct is enough to moderate greed.
In the human world, there is the insatiable 'I' - always wanting more; always wanting to puff itself up like some gigantic frog! Even though, Alexander the Great, who had a hall built filled with statues of the Kings of Nations he had conquered, all kneeling doing obeisance to him – upon realising, that all of his ambition and all of his struggles, all of his learning, all of his Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, for his entire life, his seventy laps around the sun, amounted to NOTHING, Zero, zip, - his final act was an act of service, instructing that he be buried with his hands sticking out of the ground – to show that ‘Alexander the Great, came into the world empty handed, and left, empty handed’. Now, how many of us have this wisdom?
We think that we will live forever. And that all of our struggles, all of our goals will amount to something of value, to us. One day, we will be content. Well, Alexander the Great conquered a fair portion of his world and he didn’t get there; and in the end, he didn’t think so. So, who is right? There is something inside of each and every one of us that knows Alexander the Great was right – but we ignore the obvious.
It’s the inner compass of a human being, which needs to swing towards something that we do actually value. Something we can make a real commitment to, not a conditional or conceptual one. Take those same energies, the same passion that feeds the ‘I’ and the irresolvable fires of greed and direct them towards something inside, that will allow us to blossom, as human beings. There is something of great beauty within humanity. Why should it not be the goal of GDP to allow this beauty to evolve? Trouble begins in the mind of a human being and spills out into the world around – peace begins in the human heart and soothes the mind, simplifying the ‘I’ and building an edifice of thought that has compassion as foundation rather than passion. The true SELF is known.
Without passion there can be no compassion Without compassion there can be no understanding without understanding there can be no personal growth or elevation of vision Without personal growth there can be no admiration Without admiration there can be no gratitude!
.... without gratitude there is no passion.
With logic everybody is right and nobody is w_r_o_n_g_… [Prem Rawat]
