I think that there is at least one other major alternative. Syria does not need to accept or reject either compromising or caving in order to proceed. It can simply say that it is not possible to accomplish what it promised to do and resign, letting the eurocrats deal with a new government, which would likely be Golden Dawn. The alternative to that is a military coup if Golden Dawn were to win and push comes to shove, ending Greek democracy and imploding the EU that way.
