TRANSCRIPT: Samantha Power, U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Remarks at the October Palace in Kyiv, Ukraine

Neoconservatism on display. Samantha Power puts Victoria Nuland to shame. These people are not only Obama's but also Hillary's.

But now even some of the louder voices are backing off.
Is sentiment on the Ukraine-Russia conflict turning amongst Western politicians and journalists? A series of events in the past month suggests so, and in just the last week a string of articles attempted to inject a note of pragmatic realism into the debate, where shrill warmongering was the previously the norm.
‘Putin is not Auric Goldfinger.’ Is sentiment towards Russia turning?

Truly a brilliant speech! Whoever wrote it knows his or her stuff and wrote from the heart. And the speech is largely correct!

The problem is everything that is omitted. The putchist role in Maidan deaths, the use of cluster bombs by Kiev, the neo-Nazis, IMF-US-European asset-stripping of the Ukraine, the tens of thousands of young Ukrainians who are draft dodging in Russia (not out of any particular love of Putin's Russia, but simply because they don't want to fight compatriots, or be killed by them).

This is a scary speech because it is dangerously sincere, truly reflective of the crusading character of US liberalism, even as it is blinkered to nuance, the separatists' claims, and Russia's several legitimate concerns. Don't underestimate its power

"This is a scary speech because it is dangerously sincere..."

You'd be hard put to find scary speeches that weren't dangerously sincere. Every monster in history was also sincere. Deranged but sincere. There are few cases where the aggressors are genuinely cynical through and through. Whether they are true believers or have brainwashed themselves through some weird wishful thinking is for psychiatrists to ponder. They can always justify their actions. The fact that they're not telling the truth does not necessarily mean that they don't believe in what they're saying. Hitler genuinely believed all the demented stuff spewing out of his mouth.

A few years ago, a paedophile party ran for election in the Netherlands. They explained that there was no such thing as child rape. It was making love. If I remember correctly, they called it "intergenerational love". What is scary is that these people are probably genuinely sincere. Are they mentally ill? Is perversion a mental illness? Is neoconservatism a mental illness?

Like Hitler, for example, I should imagine many of the neoconservatives are so mentally fu**ed up they may not even be able to tell the difference between reality and fantasy. Some are just cynical brazen liars and their sadism is hardwired into their DNA. Who's who is difficult to ascertain. Nuland seems to be a fu**ed up power crazed fantasist. Power is a hired gun and she'll tell absurd lies until opportunity knocks and it's time to say the exact opposite.

Right, Pearce, it's what she didn't say that speaks volumes.

The information war is based on the US assumption that the world fears Russian revanchism and irredentism as the major threat whereas Russia assumes that the world views the chief threat as a resurgence of Nazism.

The US has convinced the former Soviet states of Eastern Europe of its view, while Russia seems to have gotten the attention of ROW. Now even European leaders who are vassals of the US have to look at the rise of the right in their own countries and the majority opposition to both isolating Russia from Europe and especially fomenting war with Russia. Even the US Congress just voted against arming the neo-Nazi Avoz battalion whose insignia resembles the Wolfsangel used by the Waffen-SS (Schutzstaffel) as its symbol.

The US puppet masters are freaking out over having lost control of the narrative, and are accusing Russia of hitting below the belt with propaganda and hybrid warfare, which projecting that is obvious to all. Power's speech has a ring of desperation to it. Even her surname "power" is ironic.

The Obama administration is tone deaf and is being reported as looking "unprofessional" (read clueless and foolish) in the estimation of professionals. Obama and Kerry are not match for Putin and Lavrov. Obama and Kerry look agitated and rattled while Putin looks self-assured and confidence and Lavrov is the consummate diplomat. US leaders need to put down the flask of power before they get drunker and do more stupid shit after saying not to do "stupid shit."
