Trump seizes on two good words; 'qualified' and 'competent'.
Our current crop of people occupying our positions of rule wrt economic policy are neither qualified or competent. Trump is on to something here.
Donald Trump unleashed his opinions during a lengthy segment on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program Thursday, saying he's more qualified for president than any "dope" senator and that he's more than ready to make a serious run for the White House.
"I do a book called 'The Art of the Deal,' it's probably the No. 1-selling business book of all time," Trump told the program. "I go to the Wharton School of Finance. I was a good student in the hardest school there was to get into," he said.
"And then they say, 'Oh, he's not qualified,' and they take some dope who becomes a senator who's nothing, and he's qualified to be on the stage, but Trump isn't qualified? Give me a break."
Trump said he'd want a tough negotiator to serve as secretary of the Treasury, such as a Jack Welch or Carl Icahn, instead of people who are "soft and weak and frankly stupid and incompetent."
"I have great relationships, great friendships, great everything," he said. "It doesn't matter, because this is going to be an election, in my opinion, that's based on competence. Because people are tired of being patsies for China, for Mexico."
This is not to imply that Trump himself should be considered fully qualified and competent; (Mike has pointed out Trump's demonstrated incompetency in understanding our monetary system) but I think he has hit the nail on the head here with his general focus on the issues of qualifications and competency.

And, Jack Welch or Carl Icahn at Treasury?? Oh boy.
There's far too much love, particularly on the left, for credentials and providence.
Neither of which demonstrate any competence in anything of value.
Right Mike that implies he is still stuck in the "govt is the same as a firm" falsehood with those two fossil USD zombies being mentioned...
Right Neil there are 'credentials' and then there is true exhibition of qualification and competency ... two different things imo...
Oh come on! Every four years qualification and competency are the hallmarks of every candidate, and sometimes, a real clincher, you may even want to have a beer with them (Bush) or a doughnut or a burger (Clinton). Was there ever a candidate who wasn't allegedly qualified and competent?
How about rationality? Or good decision making? Or policies that will benefit the working class? Or a decent vision for the future?
Nope, all Trump does is call Mexicans rapists, threatens Iran, Russia and China, claim that the US military is underfunded, claim to be a free trader but demands that major US multinationals halt and reverse the offshoring (as if the bought and paid for Congress will sign up to this even if he means it, which is highly doubtful), and blab about the buildings he's sold or is renting to the Chinese, the Saudis, etc.
It'll be fun watching Trump humiliate the other Republican nominees, but thugs like Cruz and Rubio will give as good as they get. A nasty fight that may destroy any Republican chance of taking the White House. Unfortunately, that leaves a clear path for President Hilary Clinton, unless her past catches up with her.
