There has been a whole lot of investigative reporting by credible people in the US, as well as the testimony of whistleblowers that hasn't hit the mainstream and now it is emerging in the blogosphere — Zero Hedge on the right and Naked Capitalism on the center left come to mind as influential blogs with large readerships. They are echoing this stuff.
