Russia goes along with a U.S. proposed ceasefire in Syria? Putin wants to have good relations in the worst way.

First of all I thought we were fighting ISIS? So it's a ceasefire against who? Against ISIS?

I can't believe Putin fell for this. This is just a ploy. The U.S. will use this, as they have used other ceasefires, to re-arm the rebels.

Putin evidently wants good relations with the U.S. in the worst possible way. Sad. This won't end well. Russia will be double-crossed by the U.S. once again.

I would be more interested in knowing if they had a conversation on the end-game.

Putin is setting Trump up like he set up Obama/Kerry knowing that the deep state will scuttle any deal they make, and the US will look like the banana republic it has become. The leaders of the world will be noticing that no one is in charge in the US and that it is a battle of factions for control. This is a signal that collapse may be immanent. No one else will trust the US or want to make agreements with it.

Who's proposed ceasefire is this? Trump's or the War hawks?

Trump wants to sell Europe energy too so if that pipeline never goes thru Syria he could care less...

I agree with Mike's sentiment, however, the devil is in the details.

The last Syrian ceasefire applied only to the parties who signed. Since the Al Qaeda and ISIS types did not sign, Russia and Syria could continue bombing them. My guess is that the latest ceasefire will be something similar.

In any event, these Syrian ceasefire always break down after a couple of weeks and are forgotten. Putin is playing along for the sake of appearances -- perhaps he hopes to get a Nobel peace prize someday. Putin knows that Syria will eventually prevail regardless, with the only unanswered question being what happens to the Kurds.

I'm with Tom, Russia is setting the stage for a major US failure. Russia is playing chess, the US is playing with itself.

The only question is how far the US will go to maintain power.

Putin is taking the high road while the US is doing stupid stuff. It's embarrassing America for one thing. And for another it is dangerous.

I agree, Trump plays with himself most of the time.

No. Against the rebels that the US has supported and who are fighting Assad and his army: Al-Qaeda and their splinter groups. One used to be called Al-Nusra, now gone through two renamings. You can’t keep track of them.

These splinter groups are aligned with ISIS.

We’ve been entirely schizophrenic in Syria.

"We've"

Right when it's a failed Democrat policy it's "we" when it's a success it's "Democrats"...

Honestly, I really don't care about the anti Assad forces. The question for me is does this include ISIS? And what happens to the Kurds? Trump is such a nincompoop I would bet he doesn't know for sure. Putin will tell him eventually, sort of,school him. I doubt most of our allies place much trust in him. And, yes, this could be the slide into oblivion for us with the nincompoop in charge. WTF is wrong with us?

It is just possible he and his best bud cut out a piece of Syria for the Caliphate. Who cares about that right? Let the fuckers keep on killing

The end deal has to include 1) elimination of Islamist terrorists — ISIS and AQ affiliates, 2) Syrian sovereignty maintained, and 3) eventual UN monitored elections in Syria.

Kurdistan includes areas Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran, and is oil-rich. No way there is going to be an agreement among all these nations establishing a sovereign state of Kurdistan coming out of this. The Kurds are losers to history and geography at this point.

"We've" = USA.

Colonel Lang just put up an interesting perspective on the ceasefire:

Israel cannot be pleased with tomorrow's SW cease fire in Syria

Theyre probably thinking if US goes energy independence and withdraws military then their "neighbors" will need a land route for their energy products in exchange for food... if their "neighbors" run out of food the s is really going to hit the f....
