James Petras — China and the US: Rational Planning and ‘Lumpen’ Capitalism

James Petras explains how China has a vision and is actualizing it, while the US is trying to maintain position. Beijing's strategy is based on economic policy. Washington's strategy is based on military policy.

The analysis contains some interesting observations on the Chinese economy and where it is headed.

In china gifted scientists, mathematicians, and engineers, are working on new products and technologies to improve the quality of life and the Chinese economy. But in the West the best brains go into finance leaving our science and technology short of talent. Now finance does need gifted people but the balance is all wrong. Finance should be serving industry rather than industry serving finance.
