Publius Tacitus — America's Persistent Russia Delusion by Publius Tacitus

How long can American citizens continue to display such an astonishing degree of ignorance when it comes to the topic of Russia and meddling in political affairs? The media is pounding away like a hyperactive child with a new drum--bang, bang, bang--insisting that Russia is every where in our political system and is controlling our destiny. This kind of bald faced lie goes beyond egregious. It is diabolical. It has only one purpose--provoke confrontation with a nuclear power. If that does not qualify as the true definition of insanity, then you are beyond the reach of reason.
The deviant fantasy that has enveloped the weak minds of most Americans with respect to Russia conjure the image of a gleeful Putin, keen on conquering the world, lusting for blood and running a global criminal syndicate. And there stands Ma and Pa Kettle, our mom and dad, our brother and sister. It is up to us, the humble, peaceful Americans, who must lead the charge in thwarting this malevolent tyrant. This is the bullshit that is drowning the media in the United States and most appear quite willing to imbibe this toxic sludge.
Let us start with some very simple facts:...

American citizens will continue to worship the Russia-gate hoax as long as citizens are crushed by neoliberalism. Many Americans use Russia-gate to mentally distract themselves from ever-worsening poverty and debt bondage. The Russia-gate hoax offers a kind of “hope” that the never-ending “investigation” will one day produce some kind of smoking gun, whereon the Russia-gaters will be magically “raptured” to heaven.

Thus, believers in the Russia-gate hoax are members of a peasant cult.

Another cult consists of peasants who indulge in identity politics, which lets them fantasize that they will ascend to a paradise if they can finally get rid of “toxic masculinity,” or “anti-Semitism,” or “hate speech,” or “homophobia,” and so on.

“The media is pounding away like a hyperactive child with a new drum--bang, bang, bang--insisting that Russia is everywhere in our political system and is controlling our destiny. This kind of bald faced lie goes beyond egregious. It is diabolical. “

When an empire begins to die from its own lies and corruption, the empire becomes warped, demented, isolated, and suicidal. It lashes out in a desperate attempt to delay its inevitable collapse, only to accelerate the collapse.

“The deviant fantasy that has enveloped the weak minds of most Americans with respect to Russia conjure the image of a gleeful Putin, keen on conquering the world, lusting for blood and running a global criminal syndicate.”

It was the same with Hitler, and then with "Commies." The American peasantry remains as gullible, stupid, self-righteous, herd-like and hypocritical as ever.

The chattering class (of which this blog is chock full of exemplars) is obsessed with Russia-gate. American citizens are obsessed with getting on with their lives, debating domestic issues, or just trying to survive.

What has changed at MNE in the year since I quit? I'm seeing the same old bylines from the same old sources, obsessing over the same old stories.

But why would I expect differently? The contributors and the commentators haven't changed.

Like an old shoe, this place has become too comfortable.

Three things.

1. Trump and Trump derangement syndrome. (Many subpoints here.)

2. Some left because they thought that MNE was too doctrinaire about the MMT in certain respects.

3. Some left because they though the tone in the comments had degraded to the point of being offensive.

I think you underestimate the power and success of the mass media. I overhear ordinary blue collar workers talking about it, repeating the propaganda about Russia. Dividing and conquering those trying to survive, with one side uncritically supportive of Trump, the other side just as if not more mindlessly critical, most especially when he acts reasonably - works well, as usual.

And then there is “Bob,” the chatterer who is obsessed with calling everyone here obsessed with Russia-gate. “Bob” thinks everyone here is as obsessed with Russia as “Bob” is.

It’s a textbook case of projection.

Take another year off. You deserve it.

... for Bob

Ennui? Listening to an endless lecture. Fall in love with anything, anyone, and the noise and boredom abate. There is the mind and then there is the heart. The heart sees this world anew, fresh, each day - and can’t wait for the sun to rise. Collect the nectar Bob, wherever you can find it. Fall in love with the self within you and love comes back perfectly. After sampling all loves, that is the love the heart is looking for. Experience teaches the mind this – never rote. Mind is the wheel in the cage; the heart is the key.

They're an audience repeating what they heard. They can be swayed, but it requires activism.

If MNE were mass media, it would enjoy similar "success".

Konrad, check the title of the article.
Count how many articles are related to Russia.
Hopefully you'll be done counting when I return next summer.

Tom,

1. Trump Derangement was in evidence last year.
2. Okay.
3. Okay.

I left because there's too much focus on the Russia story.

jrbarch,

I don't understand why you're here. There are much better venues for exploring your heart.

I'm here for the mindless banter. But not for too long. Other sources of nectar beckon...

Would there be "a Russia story" without DJT?

There is always a Russia story, at least since 1945. The opportunists simply used the outsider to pump it up. The strategy is 'killing two birds with one stone'. The birds were supposed to be Trump and Putin but turned out to be Democrats and Republicans.

ROFLMAO. So true.
