As I have been saying, it's not primarily a matter of "a few bad apples," it is rather the police culture. Larry Johnson reports the police officers' behavior that resulted in the death of George Floyd was straight out of the department manual. Thus, it appears it could have been "an unfortunate accident."

The larger question is why the US has such a deadly domestic security force in the first place. 

The second question is why minorities appear to bear the brunt of the violence, which only gets reported in the case of exceptional circumstance.

It gets more complicated.  Perhaps the police on duty at the time of George Floyd's death were not participants, but it raises the question of how the police training manual was formulated — it is doubtful that it is unique to Minneapolis. What influences were involved in its composition?

I would also argue that the continuing protests are not chiefly about George Floyd's "murder," nor even chiefly about racism. This is about systemic dysfunction that has been a long time building and is now coming to a head. This  particular incident was merely the catalyst.

Nor can this situation be attributed to either the president or his administration, although they have not helped. This has been building since the Nixon era, amplified by the Reagan administration that was continued by Poppy Bush. The election of Bill Clinton did nothing to alleviate it and arguable just extended it, as the Obama administration did are W.

Of course, the racial issue goes back to the Civil War days and the inadequate response to Reconstruction and the ensuing reaction. Slavery itself was an artifact of colonialism, an aspect of imperialism that America was launched to counteract.

The history of the republic has been an ongoing dialectic between promise of progress and hysteresis. This is another stage of it. How major it will be is yet to be determined, but if Strauss and Howe are ballpark correct, it is slated to be one of the major stages, the pattern of which they called the Fourth Turning.

News 4 has learned the entire Buffalo Police Department Emergency Response Team has resigned from the team.

That’s a total of 57 officers.

We’re told this is a show of support for the officers who are suspended without pay after shoving 75-year-old Martin Gugino.

When I grew up, I was taught that the police were my friends. Increasingly, people are afraid to interact with them, avoid them, and fear calling them for assistance.

These officers are most likely not all "bad apples." They are just reacting against the change in rules of engagement that give them guaranteed immunity in order to maintain dominance*.
