Peter Pan: I believe most of America's rats are Norwegian...

My "boo-boo" there -- I should have written "American rats (of Viking heritage) west of the Mississippi :)

Indeed. If it's not diagnosed in time (within 24 hours or so), you're in big trouble -- as in dead trouble. So... you live west of the Mississippi and you have an unexplained fever or swelling in the groin (hence the word "bubonic" or "boo-boo")? Run to the ER pronto. And if it is bubonic plague, ask for the killer antibiotics that search and destroy :)

Some good news: No risk for epidemic, scientists have Yersinia pestis' number :)

(No, vitamin D is not a cure for bubonic plague)
