The thing is most of the Taiwans don’t want to be considered ex-China themselves .... this is not generally understood by US people...
So statements like this from Pompeo are actually somewhat offensive to many of the Taiwans...
They also don't want war with the mainland. Unfortunately there are hawks in the Pentagon who are willing to fight China down to the last Taiwanese.
