"The Speed At Which [Teams] Could [Adjust] Would Make Mental Flexibility In Leadership Even More Valuable"

   (Commentary posted by Roger Erickson)

[ ... political and other pressures ... resulted in the appointment to high command in ... of so many mediocre and even incompetent [policy leaders, in all categories].

Why on earth isn't that need - to assess and promote policy agility - considered a truism for economic policy today, and all other policy disciplines?

This is a great read. One of my suggestions as required reading, for every highschool freshman in the country.

For comparison, why the hell didn't Obama just instantly fire and/or force the retirement of every single one of the GORBS*, the day after his inauguration, back in 2009, like half the country fully EXPECTED him to do?

* GORBS = Greenspan, Geithner, Orszak, Rubin, Bernanke, Summers

If Our Nation Needs Any Downsizing, It Most Likely Needs To Shed Some Stupid.

Commentary by Roger Erickson

Now that's a discussion you don't like to see playing out in public.

This ain't rocket science, nor religion, nor a question of morality.
It's just Ye Olde Question of what does & doesn't work - & what can and can't survive change. And, of course, what methods can and can't scale up to things beyond what we're doing today.

It's always about the slow vs the agile. The maladaptive vs the adaptive. You know who always survives, by definition. It's only a question of how much time progressives waste while waiting on or arguing with Luddites.

Change used to happen one generation at at time. We no longer have that luxury. We need more agile operations and an electorate with far more agile group intelligence.

No Luddite's plan survives contact with changing reality - not intact anyway. So we ALWAYS need yet another national survival PLAN. A plan not just for personal survival, but a SERIOUS PLAN for our nation to survive our own Luddites. Face it, they're Luddites, and can't catch up. Let's not waste time arguing or fighting with them. Let's just get together, usher senile gram & gramps out of our government, and leave them in in a comfortable rocking chair, with a good view of our dust.

If not, we'll only see more of the following unfolding, in public. When we ALWAYS have far better things to be doing. These are just random. The mass of stupid is getting out of control. Some of it must be shed.

Greed destroyed us all: Faulty monetary policy and insufficient regulation helped — but old-fashioned avarice really tanked the economy

Now I'd call that group stupidity, but you can call it greed if you like.

@sdtilock [He] warned followers to NEVER trust those who pray in public. [Now we have] evangelics [who] ONLY trust those who pray in public.

First signs that shutdown is impacting consumer spending. http://www.creditwritedowns.com/2013/10/first-signs-that-us-shutdown-is-impacting-consumer-spending.html

It's taken THIS long? Well, signs always appear as early as people are looking for them, and are perceptive enough to discriminate signal from noise.

The South is holding America hostage

Roger G Erickson ‏@rgeOps
@mikenorman @Salon No, dumb Luddites r holding adaptive citizens hostage. Change once happened 1 generation at a time. Now we can't wait.

If our nation needs any downsizing, it most likely needs to shed some stupid.

Let's try that before we try lopping off more essential parts?

Anyone with a SERIOUS organizational plan to suggest, please write to me at rge (at) OperationsInstitute (dot) com

We need to get started.

Shedding stupid always requires ramping up more of the same old civic skills, group perceive, group analyze, group act, group assess, GROUP adjust.

We just need to do all that faster/leaner/better.

Don't bother discussing it with Luddites. It's simply not in their repertoire. There's no point in being angry with either elephants or donkeys. Just focus on domesticating them humanely, according to their skills.

Culturington's Hyperchorea, National Dance of Death

Commentary by Roger Erickson

Self-management societies vs anarcho-capitalism: the new global war of ideologies?

Cultural self-management? On what scale? For how long?

Isn't that what we call a society, and a culture?

Both work until they don't. Then they don't work ... until they do.

It's a collective policy choice.

So, how do cultures and/or mobs actually MAKE group assessments? Through their group discourse methods, of course. Those too, are policy choices.

Are enough US citizens turning to sane, group intelligence methods, and thereby to Democracy - to save US from ourselves?

How would 315 million people even know, soon enough? You know, before self-management tolerance limits are relegated to barriers exceeded 10 contexts back?

"Oh, you mean THAT 'Bridge Out' sign! Oops. :) We bad!"
How do 315 million people even assess whether they are or aren't making a cultural policy decision?

Group momentum - stirred up by some Control Fraud - is easily and always causing groups to lurch about, triggering by default group-reflex decisions ... which the group as a whole only becomes aware of later on.

"NSA, can you trace our last 157 Million messages ... and tell us where the hell we are? And where we're going?"

"No? Well, thanks for giving it the too-old, outdated, un-affordable college try ... gramps."

Welcome to the fusion of democratic self-Command & self-Control nightmares with the Fog of Culture!

Ever seen a whole, national culture exhibiting the symptoms of a cultural huntington's-chorea? A Culturington's Hyperchorea? It's not a pretty sight, regardless of what it looks like before symptoms become visible.

Have OUR cultural institutions - no longer suitable for our changed context - already doomed the USA to a cultural Dance of Death?

The good news is that WE CAN ADJUST our flawed cultural-gene methods. The bad news is there's no guarantee that we WILL! Only if we choose to act, before the national dance descends from cultural agility into the national jerk or Middle Class Break dance that triggers excessive head-honcho banging, rampant injuries, lost generations, and loss of cultural life and states.

The National Robot Dance? That's for slow, stiff, Central Planners. The only cultural dance that's ever sustained features cultural agility.
