More Precious Metal Eating by Humans

This story goes back a way, back to May of 2008 before Wall Street wiped itself out, but I remember at that time this story about "the world's most expensive hamburger".

the city’s most expensive burger, the Richard Nouveau consists of 10 ounces of Kobe-raised beef crowned with a thick “lobe” of seared foie gras, 25 grams of shaved black truffles, and aged gruyere cheese. It comes enthroned on a brioche bun anointed with a homemade truffled mayonnaise and garnished with more shaved truffles. Oh, and gold leaf flakes from Japan, which has the yummiest gold.

I didn't know that gold could be "yummy" LOL.  But apparently metal-love knows no bounds of strange perverted forms of association between certain humans and these so-called "precious" metals.

Argyria: Literally drinking the Precious Metals Kool-aid

We were just made aware of this here at MNE, but apparently the metal-fetishists are now completely over-the-top and have proceeded to actually ingesting the precious metals.

This is a disturbing image of someone who drank too much of the precious metal silver in solution, and developed a rare condition known as Argyria (from Greek: ἄργυρος argyros silver + -ia).

Here is the wiki on this condition that is characterized by the individual developing a silverish-blue skin tone and eyeballs:  WIERD-O-RAMA!!!!

This poor fellow on the right looks like the "Tin Woodsman" character from the old "Wizard of Oz" movie.

("Oil can..... oil can....")

What are these people doing to themselves!?

It looks like this practice of ingesting the metal is popular with prominent libertarians, indicating perhaps a strong link between libertarianism and this rare skin condition.

Indeed, it looks as if libertarianism may be a key precursor to Argyria.

Let's check the epidemiology ... excerpt from the wiki:
A prominent case was that of Stan Jones of Montana, a Libertarian candidate for the United States Senate in 2002 and 2006. Jones acquired argyria through consumption of a home-made silver product that he made due to fears that the Year 2000 problem would make antibiotics unavailable.[18] The peculiar colouration of his skin was featured prominently in media coverage of his unsuccessful campaign, though Jones contends that the best-known photo was "doctored".[18] Jones promised that he was not using his silvery complexion as a gimmick.
I'm not making any of this up.

And here is an article at The Daily Paul on ingesting the two metals, silver and gold, titled;  "Do you eat Silver and Gold?" for further reference.

Again, I am not making any of this up.

These metals morons are completely out of control and now disfiguring  themselves.  Apparently this has been going on for a while within the metal-loving cohort.

Very disturbing.

Porno for Gold Fetishists

WARNING:  VIDEO BELOW MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR NON-MATURE GOLD LOVING AUDIENCES:

Found this video on YouTube of an actual naked gold atom gyrating on a stage of FeO via electron microscope.

And get this, at the end, according to the caption:  "Near the end 2 gold particles actually merge to form 1."

Wow! This is some "hot action" of gold here!  I can't believe this made it past the YouTube censors....

Gold morons: Enjoy!

Noonan's take on new Pope: 'Go and Repair My House'

WSJ's Noonan is out with her take on the new Pope via an opinion piece titled here in non-scriptural terms.

Yes. This is a kind of public leadership we are no longer used to—unassuming, self-effacing. Leaders of the world now are garish and brazen. You can think of half a dozen of their names in less than a minute. They're good at showbiz, they find the light and flash the smile. But this man wasn't trying to act like anything else.
And so, as they're saying in Europe, Francis the Humble.
May he be a living antidote. He loves the poor and not in an abstract way.
He gave the cardinal's palace in Buenos Aires to a missionary order with no money. He lives in an apartment, cooks his food, rides the bus. He rejects pomposity. He does not feel superior. He is a fellow soul.
He had booked a flight back to Argentina when the conclave ended.
But these two traits—his embrace of the church's doctrines and his characterological tenderness toward the poor—are very powerful together, and can create a powerful fusion.
He could bridge the gap or close some of the distance between social justice Catholics and traditional, doctrinal Catholics. That would be a relief.

I'm picking up an austerity vibe.

I hope I'm mis-reading this, fearing an emergent "redistribute the scarce 'precious' metals more equitably" type of approach to socio-economic justice from the Vatican; i.e. more "charity" in the modern sense.  A "trickle down" form of self-justification.

In contrast to his predecessor Benedict who was led to simply express indignation in response to his view  of all the socio-economic injustice that is currently being foisted upon the west.

"More charity!":  This we DO NOT need.  What we DO NEED is blind-moron eradication from among our midst.
"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are taking tithes from the mint and the dill and the cumin, and leave the weightier matters of the law..."  (Mat 23:23)
I guess time will tell where this is going, and I hope my early read here is wrong.

The bacteria that turns toxic chemicals into pure gold

Roger may find interesting this story that is at the nexus of microbiology and metal-love.  Science story at The Week out today , excerpt:
Researchers at Michigan State University have discovered bacteria with the remarkable ability to turn toxic chemical compounds into 24-karat gold. The breakthrough, detailed in a combination art and biotechnology exhibition called "The Great Work of the Metal Lover," [Ed: You can't make this up.] is described by researcher Adam Brown as modern day "neo-alchemy."
This part is interesting:
The details are a bit complicated, says Jesus Diaz at Gizmodo, but basically, "Cupriavidus metallidurans can eat toxins and poop out gold nuggets."
Hmmmmm... imagine gold reduced to bacterial excrement... yuck!  State currency doesn't look that bad now does it metal-lovers? At least state currency can never take the form of biological excrement.

This project interestingly is part of a combination biotechnology and art exhibit that I wonder if Ron Paul perhaps funded with an earmark to the National Endowment of the Arts.
