Best progressive analysis I've seen yet. All nine points are spot on.

As Warren Mosler points out, the good news is that this should energize the progressive base, which was getting pretty lackadaisical about showing up for Obama after the perceived sell-out.

It's a really questionable move for the GOP considering the way the demographics of the country are running. This is an outright slap in the face for minorities, whose numbers are increasing faster than whites. This agenda does not fit well with the values of the Millennials aka Generation Y either, and they are going to be the largest voting bloc for a long time.

So this could turn out to be a good short term strategy, but it is very risky long term. Could the GOP reverse perception of itself in the future to accomodate the coming demographic shift? Probably only if it is taken over by another faction and moves back toward the center in a significant way.

That was good. As a summing up the the republican bumblebee theory of politics, which according to conventional logic isn't supposed fly, Hazen reminds us of the power the R's derive from playing to and leveraging their strengths.
