UE Rate with Labor Force Held Constant

Interesting pic.twitter below.  This is more of an "apples to apples" type of comparison based on what was believed as the labor force size when we first went into the recession a few years back.

But I have to add a recent observation from the Social Security data where for the last 23 months it appears that the enrollments into Social Security for both retirements and disability increased by approximately 8 million U.S. persons.

SS enrolled at 63M here as of November 2013, 55M enrolled here as of end of 2011.

Age discrimination is the 800lb gorilla in the workplace that no one wants to talk about. Aging unemployed baby boomers are too old to re-hire and too young to retire.

Right Ed, it seems to be the "edges" of the workforce..

Like you say it is those towards the latter part of their working years and those just beginning (recent HS/College grads...) which to me means lower the retirement age and provide more robust public retirement pensions and healthcare...

Yep. My generation is being royally screwed. No job opportunities, tons of student loan debt. Forget about marriage/homeownership anytime soon! Even full time employment with benefits seems like a pipe-dream at this point!

Justin,

"Forget about marriage/homeownership anytime soon!"

THIS is a HUGE part of all of this injustice imo... THIS has to be turned around. This is a big disgrace in all of this...

Keep getting your generation fired up as best you can...
