Ian Welsh — Human Nature for Ideology

All ideologies, including all economic ideologies like the modern discipline of economics, are theories of human nature in drag.
This is an especially good post that makes many significant points, and I suggest reading the whole thing. But if you chose not to, at least remember this quote.

Human Nature for Ideology

Re human nature:

Human evolution, as far as I can understand it, moves from revelation to revelation; but we do not readily understand the nature of that which is revealed – partly because we do not understand our nature.
Our nature is simple; it can easily be described in four universally experienced questions:
1. Who am I?
2. Why am I here?
3. What should I do?
4. What will happen to me?

Why these questions arise within a human being is the subject of much speculation. They are not affected by what we do, social status or role etc. in the external world, but remain poised, consistent in the human heart for the entire life, unless answered. They cannot be answered by mind or intellect, but can be answered through feeling and experience. Knowing - with mind simply as a witness if it has the capability to understand. Underlying them is a longing that also comes from deep within the heart, for Peace. If you haven’t asked yourself these questions yet, just wait awhile. Having asked them, most people ignore them and get on with being busy. Then they die. However, anyone intent on understanding human nature will not ignore their essence.

A second aspect of human nature is that we do not know where to draw the line between knowing and belief.

That is human nature.

The peace (energy) that is within each human being is the light, escaping from around the door of the human heart, and once that door is opened and the aspirant journeys within, each of the questions are resolved: anyone who can show people how to open this door is worth knowing, if you really want to find out about human nature.

The rest is just the persona, blowing around in this world like a leaf in the wind, with all of its pretences and stupidity, needing stability.
