Glenn Greenwald — Exploiting Emotions About Paris to Blame Snowden, Distract from Actual Culprits Who Empowered ISIS

But now we’ve entered the inevitable “U.S. Officials Say” stage of the “reporting” on the Paris attack – i.e. journalists mindlessly and uncritically repeat whatever U.S. officials whisper in their ear about what happened. So now credible news sites are regurgitating the claim that the Paris Terrorists were enabled by Snowden leaks — based on no evidence or specific proof of any kind, needless to say, but just the unverified, obviously self-serving assertions of government officials. But much of the U.S. media loves to repeat rather than scrutinize what government officials tell them to say. So now this accusation has become widespread and is thus worth examining with just some of the actual evidence.
Never a let a good crisis go to waste. From the echo chamber of stratcomm.

While there is as yet no direct evidence of Moscow’s complicity in the Paris terrorist attacks – and if those were well-organized by its special services, no one would expect there to be – Moscow is clearly the chief beneficiary of those acts of violence, according to the Kyiv Center for Research on the Army, Conversion and Disarmament.
Analysts there told Kseniya Kirillova “the tragedy in Paris fits perfectly into the strategy of ‘a multiplicity of conflicts’ which Moscow is methodically conducting. ‘The maximum destabilization of the situation in the EU will increasingly shatter European and Euro-Atlantic solidarity.’”
Mikhail Samus, the deputy director of the Center, points out that “in fact, of course, there is no evidence of the direct involvement of Russia in the terrorist actions in Paris, and this is natural. All such things are the work of the special services, and they do not publish their ‘business plans.’”…

The annexation of Crimea and Russian aggression in the Donbas have become the impetus for global terrorism. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk in the message about the terrorist attacks in Paris, which was published by the press-service of the Cabinet.

"I have no doubt that the violation of security guarantees from States that stockpile nuclear weapons, the annexation of Crimea, the occupation of Donbas and the threat of force from the Kremlin have become a stimulus for global terrorism," he said.

The Prime Minister noted that the world community should unite around a few principles: unity, global solutions, alliance.

"Freedom and humanity are key features of the world we seek to protect. We have the reason and power to do everything possible to enforce freedom for humanity, before we are crushed by totalitarianism, xenophobia and hatred of another culture, faith or language", - said Yatsenyuk.
