Scott Adams — The Race for President is (Probably) Over — Updated

If you are following breaking news, Hillary Clinton abruptly left the 9-11 memorial today because she was reportedly “overheated.” Her campaign says she is fine now.
You probably wonder if the “overheated” explanation is true – and a non-issue as reported – or an indication of a larger medical condition. I’m blogging to tell you it doesn’t matter. The result is the same.
Here’s why.…

I cant believe her daughter did not demand she immediately go to the hospital when she showed up at her place...

I'm sure most still admire the woman beneath the layers of neo-liberal ideology, and seeing her health fade away, it is hard not feel sorry for her. Still reprehensible, her politics, though.

What is the political precedent for replacing sick or dying candidates near an election? Is there a chance that we get Bernie back? Or would it be her VP pick? Or her husband? Wasn't there a senator that died and his wife inherited the post?

I'm sure legally there are hurdles but laws can be changed by politicians quickly when needed.

Thin rationale on the part of the author. If Hillary's health is deteriorating, then she does become unelectable as a practical matter.

Makes me wonder whether Hillary's dizzy spell will be more of a windfall for Donald Trump or Gary Johnson.

See Replacing a Presidential Nominee After the Convention

Quote:

Both the Republican and the Democratic parties have rules in their bylaws governing how to fill the vacancy. The Party Chair calls a meeting of the National Committee, and the Committee members at the meeting vote to fill the vacancy on the ticket. A candidate must receive a majority of the votes to win the party’s nod.

The same process would happen if the vacancy were to occur after the general election but before the Electoral College meets to vote. If a vacancy should occur on the winning ticket, it would then be the party’s responsibility to fill it and provide a candidate for whom their electors could vote.

In short, the vice presidential nominee on the ticket has no special standing should the presidential nominee be unable to run prior to the date the Electoral College meets (December 15) and would not automatically become the Party’s nominee. The Party would convene a special meeting and nominate a new presidential candidate. Depending on the timing and circumstances it would not be unreasonable to assume that Congress might step in and change the date of the election to give the new candidate a fair chance, but there are no existing laws in place to govern the process.

What happened today can be dispelled, assuming she is able to make public appearances without further incident. It is time for her handlers/doctors to face the facts that the public can only speculate about.

Interesting times.

Quote:
But there is a spanner in the works, and its name is Bernie Sanders. In the tumultuous rush to anoint Clinton at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia last month, few people paid attention to Sanders’ careful choice of words in his endorsement of his rival. “I move that the convention suspend the procedural rules. I move that all votes, all votes cast by delegates be reflected in the official record, and I move that Hillary Clinton be selected as the nominee of the Democratic Party for president of the United States.” Sanders said. He did not remove his own candidacy, he did not commit the votes in his favor to Clinton and some of his supporters are saying that when the convention suspended all the procedural rules, as he proposed, that includes the DNC’s authority to replace Clinton if she left the race. Instead, the nomination should pass automatically to the candidate next in line, the one who never suspended his own race, and his name just happens to be Bernie Sanders.

Hillary is a sick woman. I have doubted for a while now that she would debate Trump. What surprised me was that the media didn't cover up her collapsing as she fell into the vehicle. Anyone else would have been rushed to an emergency room but a presidential candidate is taken to her daughter's house? Odds are that there was a team of medical people waiting, slipped into the back door. And now she has had pneumonia since Friday but was up and walking. I was born in the dark but it wasn't last night. Has anyone heard where she went after she left her daughter's house?
