Should not be surprising:

Great, put Iran on notice for having done nothing, other than help the US counter Al Qaeda and other religious whack jobs, and now ISIS. It'll also strengthen the Iranian hardliners, may lead to the collapse of the nuclear deal which in all but name halted their entire civilian nuclear programme because their never was a military nuclear programme. It may lead to war, in which case Iran will divert all its resources into a military nuclear programme and have nuclear warheads within years.

What a counterproductive strategy! This a day after Trump has a long chat with the king of Saudi Arabia, the leader and sponsor of global Wahhabi jihadism, but then Trump does have a lot of business interests with these gangster jihadis in the Gulf. Trump's so tough on the jihadis! The conman that he is, Trump screamed from podiums that he's the ONLY person brave enough to tell the truth about "radical Islamic terrorism", and within no time he's siding with the source of all "radical Islamic terrorism" against a country that has time and time again helped the Western world combat it. Should we have expected anything other than macho posturing and warmongering from a remarkably uninformed reality television host?

Yeah, just throw stuff and see what sticks.

There's no way China and Russia will sit back if the U.S. invades Iran.

They won't allow the U.S. to control all of the oil in the region.

No Chance.

John said...

Footsoldier, damn right, and not just that, they'll give Iran every high-tech missile they've got if Trump declares war. It's not a surprise that Trump's foreign policy is incoherent and contradictory, but that it's this incoherent and contradictory is the real surprise, but that's what happens when you listen to Bannon's "nationalist" "Leninism" long enough.

So much for the Putin bromance.

The lesson of history is if you want war, claim to be the peace candidate.

My prediction is sadly coming true. War with Iran within a year. Now it seems like we might be seeing confrontation with them earlier. Great.

If people still can't see this by now, I don't know what else to tell them. War with Iran has been on the table for decades. Trump is handing these people a nice war on a silver platter. Why do you think he's been loading up his cabinet with generals to begin with?

Penguin pop said...

To anyone who didn't think this guy was serious when he said he wanted to take the oil from Iraq and take out their families, well here's the damn proof he's not joking. You get what you paid for.

The MIC has full control of Trump. Game over.

Flynn's a disgrace and a fanatical liar. Japanese military leaders knew what to do if they had dishonoured themselves.

"The MIC has full control of Trump. Game over."

I'd argue he was already in the tank for them months ago while everyone was distracted by all this "Hillary would go to war with Russia" line when in reality, I'm pretty sure her BS would have been same crap Obummer had already been doing anyway and the Iran Deal would have been maintained.

Dave said...

What kills me is, as was said above, Trump said all this. He said he would go after Iran. And yes John, Flynn is a psychopathic lying POS

John said...

Dave: "He said he would go after Iran."

And who benefits? OK Israel has another "enemy" put out to grass for no longer than a decade. The US may or may net get a pliant regime. All the evidence is that it won't, and all parties within Iran, from the left to the right, have declared that any attack will result in them actively developing nuclear weapons. The Wahhabi jihadi maniacs Trump likes so much will get another bloodbath. And hypocritical conservative Christians in the US can weep crocodile tears over homosexuals being thrown off tall buildings and magicians being crucified as ISIS takes a chunk out of Iran. So unless the US is going to invade and occupy Iran forever, then Iran will have nuclear weapons within a few short years.

I dont think they will invade ... "nation building!" is out...

Probably start by knocking a bunch of stuff down or sinking some ships, etc ... "eye for an eye!" "get even!" type of activity... "counter punching!" but definitely bringing the haymaker...

btw he went to meet the coffin at Dover this afternoon:

Matt: "I dont think they will invade ... "nation building!" is out..."

They're not the same thing. There was no attempt at nation building in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Matt: "Probably start by knocking a bunch of stuff down or sinking some ships, etc ... "eye for an eye!" "get even!" type of activity... "counter punching!" but definitely bringing the haymaker..."

That may be, but get ready for a huge Iranian nuclear stockpile within a few years. People will hold Obomber in a new light then. Washington will have to declare an illegal war because it won't get UNSC approval, and won't even have the usually docile UK's support. Washington may be able to live with being a world pariah.

But that isn't the worst of it. As the military experts have been pointing out for years, bombing without a ground invasion will not ensure that the alleged nuclear sites have been permanently shut down. And even then, all that would be decommissioned by bombing would be the KNOWN nuclear enriching sites. New sites can be set up in no time, working at an increased rate, and within a few years Iran would have the very thing that the bombing was meant to prevent. That's why the nuclear deal that was agreed was considered a shockingly good deal.

He should be. He sent a brave man to his death in a pointless PR exercise.

Iran is just another item on the US-Saudi-Israeli alliance checklist. With Russia and China cooperating in Syria it is simply stupid not to recognize that both have interests and active deals with Iran.

Nothing like encouraging your 'enemies' to work together. There is no way it will end well. Hello WW3.

How many Americans know the history of US involvement in Iran - in particular Operation Ajax?

Dave said...

Iran is not Iraq and Afganistan. The Iranians have been preparing for this for a while. This will not turn out well.

Flakey Flynn didn't bother to explain what "putting on notice" means.

And not that 5-military deferment Don gives a damn, but ...

Overconfidence, stupidity, and a disregard for the human costs of ones actions are hallmarks of a regime doomed to fail spectacularly and to bring the world down with it. Is that part of a third dimensional persuasion matrix, or am I just using my non existent rational mind again?

John said...

Lastgreek, I forgot the bravery it took on Trump's part to murder innocent men, women and especially children. Tough guys kill children and then slap themselves on the back for it. Perhaps Melania, or Ivanka, finished a great day in frantic fashion for the tough chickenhawk. Like Flynn, Trump is a disgraceful rogue and already a war criminal. He too, like Flynn, should take the honourable way out, if he knew what the word meant, but Trump University and the birther controversy he started proves this is a man with no honour, dignity or self-respect. Before these lunatics are through, they'll have the world on the precipice.
