Justin Fox — Voters Don't Like Cutting Corporate Taxes

The overall message here for elected officials would seem to be: Tread warily when cutting corporate tax rates....

Who cares what voters think?

Certainly not their government representatives.

Poll: Majority of Americans support universal healthcare

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/279991-poll-majority-of-americans-support-federally-funded-healthcare

And what do they get?

Severely disabled kids' lives at risk, parents say, as Texas enacts Medicaid cost-savings plan

http://www.dallasnews.com/news/texas-legislature/2017/02/13/severely-disabled-kids-risk-texas-enacts-medicaid-cost-savings-plan

And the main reason why my wife and I when we had the chance to move down to the states said NO -- Health care is not a human right in the land of We the People. "We the People"? What a laugh!

Voters don't know what's good for them.

Did you watch the news conference this afternoon, Bob, between PM Trudeau and some fat, orange-haired slob, who was obviously picked up from a nearby Hooters, chosen to represent the United States? What a contrast! What an embarrassment! Go USA!

Greek,

That Hooters guy supports it:

(I think he would have rather had to walk across hot coals than be in that meeting with Trudeau and the other females...)

Well then, Matt, that certainly explains Tom Price as secretary of HHS ;)

Matt, as you know very well, the Hooter guy changes his mind as often as he tweets. Remember this back in 2013?

"I think you’ll be looking at the record of Hillary Clinton, and how did she do as secretary of state — probably above and beyond everybody else.”

lastgreek, don't forget Trump calling Bubba a "great president" who was being undermined by "losers" who claimed he sexually attacked them.

Alright fellas, the "scandals clock" has now officially started ticking: Michael Flynn is scandal number one, and that's only if you don't count the minor ones so far. My estimation is a cool ten before the year is out.

Bill Black says that Trump is "fundamentally lazy" and won't put in the kind of effort necessary, and this character flaw will cripple his presidency, because he lacks the intellectual curiousity to be a president. This may be true, but I don't think that's what will dog him. In that regard, he's no different to Dubya. Trump will be able to weather a lot of scandal, but what will probably do him in eventually will be that shady business mindset of his which will find a way of ensuring that money starts rolling into his own personal coffers. With this guy, it'll be the money, not the bimbos or the unsuitably young girls he seems to be drawn to, not the wars, not the shambolic nature of his administration, not the lurching or even lunging from self-inflicted crisis to self-inflicted crisis. It'll be the money. If the GOPhers and Dems had any sense, they'd tempt him into a fraudulent scheme that will line his own pockets and then impeach him. Trump's a shyster, and Trump "University" among many other "business" dealings have proven that. Once a shyster, always a shyster, and his cabinet of fraudsters is proof positive.

A lot of people see what's happening as an organized takedown of the legitimately elected president because he won't go along to get along. This is featured already on many sites that support Trump. In addition, all appearances are impeachment is being politicized, comparable to the takedown of Dilma in Brazil.

John said...

And the "Scandal Clock" strikes one! Michael Flynn resigns.

At least Trump had the good sense to cut the fool loose, instead of having "full faith in his abilities" and all the other silly talk that precedes the inevitable resignation.

The media will be emboldened by this. They'll move on to the nest dipshit in Trump's cabinet.

John said...

Tom, I don't disagree. However, he doesn't make things easy on himself, does he? He's foolish enough to demand a bare-knuckle fistfight. The organised interests are going to give him one, and they're going to leave him a bloody wreck, crying for his daddy. As I've said before, I know who my money's on if it's a case of Trump vs organised interests. Trump will have to back down. The problem is that there's little evidence that he knows how to.

Tom Hickey said...

This was a takedown by the intelligence services and media. The war is on between the Establishment and the Usurpers. Needless to say, it's not going to be pretty.

It's pretty sure that tonight the president will be thinking about how to get beyond even.

The opposition is already taking bets on how long it will take to impeach him and remove him from office.

Penguin pop said...

My money is that there will be at least one impeachment hearing sometime in the next 4 years. At the rate we're going now, it could be by the end of the year or next year. In any situation, we will need way more popcorn. The butthurt no matter who it comes from will be amazing.

This began even before DJT was elected, intensified after the election up to the inauguration, and then jumped the shark after the inauguration to the point that it has become obvious all but morons that a soft coup is underway.

This was inevitable. Its far as the US establishment goes, you go along get along, or you meet with the full force of the establishment to remove you. Trump had to know that. We'll see if he is ready for it.

This is showing up American "democracy" for the sham it is.

It would be so easy to do. Trump wouldn't be able to resist. He's cheap and will do anything for a quick buck even if it's illegal. He'll even shill for Ivanka's clothing and beg for Nordstrom and those stores to keep those products on the shelves.

Penguin pop said...

I bet if Trump got impeached, you'd be seeing a book about his time in the presidency shortly after. Lotta money to be made there having a possibly ghostwritten book come out. ;)

Win win for him. He still profits off his own infamy and will die an even wealthier man.

The chances of setting him up and not being discovered are pretty low. There would be hell to pay if caught out. Easy to say, dangerous to do.

I don't think that the "Democrats" are up to doing this. It's not their game and they would have to hire some people. That's real exposure there. But the intelligence services are up to it, and unless Trump cleans house quickly they are likely to go for it one way or another.

Within three weeks the organised interests have taken out his national security adviser. Tillerson could be next.

Dumb fucks like DeVos and Perry will be shown to be the incompetents they are. Ordinarily, their kind of incompetence is ignored. The media is going to highlight it every day, and it'll embarrass the hell out of Trump and make his administration look clownish. That's why I said a couple of weeks back that he shouldn't risk the backlash that will inevitably result.

It's a soft coup alright, and a slow one too. You get the impression that the vested interests are keeping this in first gear, only so as to send a message to Trump that they can turn this up any time they want to. How long before he gets the message? When Bannon (Trump's so-called brain) is toast? When they publish evidence of Melania's past as an escort?

Tom: "The chances of setting him up and not being discovered are pretty low. There would be hell to pay if caught out. Easy to say, dangerous to do."

Sure, but they could subcontract it out, Bay of Pigs style. There must be any number of Mexican gangsters who'd like to take him down. Any what's Trump going to do? Ask the intelligence services to investigate any anti-Trump shenanigans? They'll probably be the ones who'll be behind it, and be dumb enough to leave a trail back to themselves!

Although very different, this has the feeling of the black statecraft that scuttled the Iran hostages in favour of Reagan and the Vietnam talks in favour of Nixon.

John, I think we can call it a win-win for both sides -- the deep state and those concerned about Flynn's kookiness (flip-flops/Islam). It's bad enough the president is a kook, it's even worse when you have another kook advising said kook ;)

Tillerson could be next.

Exxon has the technical expertise to help Russia explore/exploit its artic natural resources. That's the connection I see. But if he's next, again, it is a win-win for everybody ;)

Dumb fucks like DeVos and Perry will be shown to be the incompetents they are.

It takes either corruption or incompetence to appoint those two fools. Personally, I think it's both. And in fairness, let's not forget Obama's appointment of Pritzker for the commerce post.

John said...

lastgreek, I agree with you. The subtle point is that the media and the deep state know full well that every president, for various political and funding reasons, appoints incompetents to their cabinet, but no one highlights it. They let sleeping dipshits lie. The gloves are off with Trump. The media, deep state and vested interests are going to rip his cabinet apart, and then rip him apart. You can't say he doesn't deserve it. In three weeks he's proven to be a fucking full on retard! There's a good video on The Guardian website, in which John Oliver dissects Trump as a pathological liar. Trump's set himself up for a very bad fall, and I have no idea if he and his wacko advisers have any idea how to get out of it: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/feb/13/john-oliver-trump-relationship-truth-last-week-tonight

Let's not forget, it was the intelligence services who took Flynn down. I may be wrong about this, but the information couldn't have come from anywhere else. This isn't even round one. The state and corporate interests haven't even started walking to the ring yet. They're sending out warning signals: it's going to be bloody, and it'll be a one sided mauling, but only if Trump wants to play it that way. You can see the senior GOPhers telling Trump that this can all end if he plays nice. I can't see Trump backing down from a fight, and so let the games begin.

John said...

There is one up side to all this. It is a lesson in real world government, not the stupid brainwashing shit that goes by the name of "civics"! It'll be a realtime lesson to hundreds of millions of people in how the country is organised.

Peter Pan said...

I don't believe the GOP has a problem with DeVos, Perry, Sessions, or Pruitt. They want ideologues who are willing to dismantle their own departments. It seems that is what Trump wants as well.

But no one is irreplaceable. VP Pence is a reliable backup, which means that Trump is not necessary to the GOPhers agenda.

Is there more to this than the deep state anti-Russia brigade flexing its muscles? If Trump plays ball and throws Putin under the bus, the deep state will play nice. Both the GOP and the Dems will go along because they don't care about immigrants or the working class. Trump's plans for deregulation will help Wall Street and that is what these politicians are paid to do.

Tom Hickey said...

There are several agendas that can be groups under Establishment v. Usurpers.

The Establishment agenda is business as usual and extension of the status quo through globalization, neoliberalism and neoconservatism to secure permanent US global hegemony.

The Usurpers agenda is to substitute nationalism for globalism, to turn to solving the domestic problems of the US, confronting US existential threats, the only one of which now is terrorism, and promoting Traditionalism over Liberalism and American conservatism over American liberalism.

The first goal was to get rid of Flynn, who was placed in position to takedown the globalists in US intelligence services. The US intelligence services managed to get to him first. This is a bad hit for Trump and he is now on notice. We don't know all the facts, but we do know that Flynn was taken down using intelligence services leaks and a complicit press.

The biggest news, actually, is not Flynn but the use of the intelligence services to subvert the president's agenda. This is indicative of the absence of liberal democracy in the US. This was an aspect of an ongoing coup at the highest levels.

It seems to be me that the better tactic for Trump would have been for Flynn to under his resignation and for Trump not to accept it and to slam the leaks that were designed to take Flynn down.

Next, the big objective is to takedown Bannon through some manufactured scandal and then takedown Trump himself through impeachment.

The Establishment is fine with Pence and Trump was ill-advised to choose him as VP.

Tom: "The biggest news, actually, is not Flynn but the use of the intelligence services to subvert the president's agenda. "

It's exactly like how the media covered up the real scandal regarding Watergate. Nixon's hamfisted petty burglary was just that, a minor burglary, but the media ran with that, blew it out of all proportion and it was enough to unseat him. But the real scandal was the deep state intelligence services mass criminality: from mass surveillance and undermining the left to murder of American citizens. That was the real scandal, but it was covered up. Same with Flynn.

All this may save the human race from Flynn and co's desire for a major military confrontation, which would quickly escalate into another world war, but it is still nevertheless a soft coup against a democratically elected sitting president who hasn't even been in office for a month. Trump can either play Washington's game or suddenly wake up one morning to find himself writing his presidential memoirs later this year after President Pence has given him a presidential pardon.

President Pence, God help us, the man makes Dubya look like Jefferson, Lincoln and FDR rolled into one!
