That Solow is at times considered one of the "good guys" just shows how very very bad the 20th century was for economics. If it weren't for the almost comically worse economists from the 50s on and in recent decades, Solow's and similar work would and should still be viewed as a misleading and time-wasting approach that has distracted for decades from the real economic issues and valid approaches to economics
