The headline is a bit sweeping but some short sellers do so because they perceive not only weakness, e.g, in technical indicators, but also fundamentals. This post is about spotting control fraud and management ineptitude, and betting against it — because it is the right thing to do socially.

Ignores market manipulation - betting against something, then crashing it. There is no public service here, as is being suggested.
