- The exodus of Western companies from Russia in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine has left a business vacuum that China is very interested in filling.
- Notably, China is interested in taking advantage of the oil, gas, and metals projects that have been left behind by various companies boycotting Russia.
- It seems that sanctions and boycotts on Russia may have the unintended consequence of strengthening China’s efforts to internationalize the yuan.
Yet another strategic blunder on the part of the West? Irina Slav suggest it is. Enter the dragon.
Secondary sanctions on China? That has its pitfalls, too.

“ note from an FSB analyst positioning the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a proxy war between China & the US. Suggests China knew about the invasion in advance & was assured by Russia it would end quickly.”
Now Siberia vulnerable…
Guy alleges China growing impatient
“ China can absolutely give us a harsh ultimatum to end the war to stabilize the price of oil. If this happens, I don’t want to make predictions – it’d be on the horizon of catastrophic events.”
With now Russia military somewhat depleted…
Ever underestimate the power of USD zombieism…,
Guy alleges this is a current FSB consideration:
“ China’s high dependence on exports coupled with its dependence on commodity prices would result in a fatal blow if the cost of commodities goes up because their domestic market will disappear (Chinese population can’t afford the increased price of goods).”
Caveat emptor…
Alleges FSB also viewing US shale as swing producer:
“ They make money on drilling when oil is expensive, and when it’s cheap – from industrial development. This is a bit blunt, but it provides the necessary insight into their approach. Shales (oil fracking), unlike the classic method (of oil extraction), is easy to stop and start.”
"With now Russia military somewhat depleted…"
They have roughly 1 million units and only moved 60% into Ukraine out of the 150 thousand they moved to the border of Ukraine.
So they moved 15% of their armed forces to the border of Ukraine and only used 60% of those to completely surround the enemy in 2 weeks.
Matt's just giving you a taster of what Trumpers or Republicans framing and narrative will be like when they are in the hot seat.
Just saying stay skeptical… lots of disinformation coming from both sides…
If you want the other side suggest following Louise Mensch on Twitter … sheesh…
