The economics of politics. Under capitalism, politics is a market.

Under rational choice theory, which abstracts from values, corruption and crime are rational choices. Laws are imposed to discourage them as non-productive. However, it is also rational behavior to seek to influenced legislation and to corrupt the system by instituting a double standard of justice for gain.

To run a reelection campaign in the US Senate, on average members must raise $11m, or $35k per week for their entire six-year term.
