It's people who think those two things are equivalent that are the problem, when it's millions to one.
We don't stop PE for the out of shape kid with asthma do we.
Or perhaps the "Equality of Outcome" people think we should?
As the experts say the impact of Covid on the young is about one in a million, whereas the impact of flu on the young is about five in a million.
Flu is far more dangerous to younger people than Covid. Yet we never shut the schools down for flu.

Also, in a sane society herd immunity (I personally prefer the phrase "population immunity") is achieved thru vaccination.

You know why we are behind the curve with these bitch viruses? Governments, especially the US, drastically cut research funding following SARS and MERS when they should have ramped up. Fools.

Last fall, my 91-yr-old father got his flu shots.
(You know, my father never had the opportunity to go school. Life after WW2 was hard in Greece; he had no choice but to work toiling the fields as a boy. Good man my father; lots of common sense :) )

Closing schools is much more about the kids bringing home the virus to their parents and grandparents, and the teachers. Not so much the kids themselves.

The irony of seeing obese people wearing masks. If you're so worried about dying, maybe you shouldn't weigh 300+ pounds.
All the comments are still missing the point of the abysmal governments responses. Lockdowns inevitable due to the need to protect the hospitals from being overwhelmed.

It takes many years for anyone to become morbidly obese. 6 months ago fat folks had no idea of Covid 19, and then no idea that they would soon have such risks. The pandemic may finally create a serious push towards them unweighting. Time will tell if the virus doesn't get them first.
Well I suppose the young could be systematically drafted to attend Camp Covids and allowed to leave when they pose no threat to anybody else. Somehow I doubt they'll be up for that preferring to whine!
