Will John McCain be to Donald Trump as Joe Lieberman was to Barack Obama? Looks like it, only worse. It appears the two hate on each other. Adding to all the things that Mercouris mentions, McCain probably can't deal psychologically with the fact that he lost his election and Trump won his.
John McCain is no match for Donald Trump is a pissing contest. But it will be fun to watch if it comes to that.

If you will read "Guilt by Association" by Jeff Gates you will find out why John McCain hates Russia. McCain is a tool of the deep state and does what he is told.
No one ever wins a pissing contest. Or were you being literal?
It's not just Trump who, alone, can smother McCain. Trump has Bannon and Bannon despises McCain and everything he stands for.
