Mentions "free market" six times. :-(

Make health insurance tax deductible (not clear if that will require itemizing?), which will disproportionately benefit the upper class.

Health Savings Accounts -- a tax break for the upper class. The lower class can't afford to save.

Care providers must post prices so you can shop around while you are having a heart attack.

Delegate Medicaid to the states, which means it will be privatized and there will be copays, deductions, and a lien placed on your assets to recover Medicaid costs.

Deregulate pharmaceuticals and allow imported drugs from developing countries that have even fewer regulations than we do.

I don't think Trump wrote this -- he is not a detail man. Regardless of what you think of Trump's rhetoric, the actual policy of a Trump presidency would be handled by staff, by some new Donald Rumsfelds and Dick Cheneys. This health care plan is a preview.

I'm disappointed with this proposal, but not surprised.

An analysis of selling insurance across state lines. This guy is my go-to for straight talk on health insurance:

"The idea is, after the federal Obamacare mandates are repealed, to allow the sale of cheaper policies from states with the fewest benefit mandates to be able to be sold in high mandate states––thereby encouraging the state with more mandates to curtail them.

Stripping down a health plan is a great time tested way for a predatory insurance company to attract the healthiest consumers at the expense of the legacy carrier who is then left with the sickest––cherry picking.

If it did work, we're talking about a one-time minor league savings of only a few percentage points.

Well said, Dan. Spot on! And they will tell him how to carry on the war effort too. Puppet. I think his main purpose is to get Hilary elected. There is on democracy in the West.

I dont know where Trump can ever get staff that thinks exactly like he does... certainly not in the academe...

this remains a great unknown wrt a possible Trump admin...

In the end who cares how it's structured so long as we reach the goal of universal coverage, including long term care that does not bankrupt people. We have the produxtive ability to provide health services for all people let's do it and stop saying we cannot afford it in $$$ terms. We can afford it in terms of real resources.

Well maybe he can negotiate coverage for "a Medicaid patient" in bulk, then offer that same unit price to somebody who has means to pay for it...

So that way everybody would be covered... ie "Universal Coverage" rather than have providers who nickel and dime Medicaid on a fee for service basis...

What is written here by his campaign would not rule out that type of implementation...

Obama has proven that a significant amount of Executive action can be done on Obamacare, so major tweaks are certainly possible. The law hangs or fails on the individual mandate, so I'm not sure how that can be eliminated or modified under the existing legislation?

As Malmo's Ghost said, O-Care is not going to be repealed because it's what our owners wanted.

If anyone was serious about fixing health care in the U.S. (within realistic political limits) it might go something like this:

-- lower the Medicare enrollment age to 55, or 62, or whatever you could get away with. The point is to incrementally expand Medicare enrollment, with a long term goal of Medicare-for-All.

-- amend Medicare to cover long-term care.

-- amend O-Care to cap the max out-of-pocket premium at say $50/month regardless of income. For $50 a month many of the currently uninsured would enroll.

-- amend Medicaid to eliminate the current practice of putting liens on the assets people over age 55.

-- amend Medicaid to have Uncle Sam pick up 99% of the tab, to reduce red state objections to expanding Medicaid.

If I were king I would scrap the current system and replace it with free public hospitals and free public clinics, and nationalize much of the pharmaceutical industry. But in the real world incrementally expanding existing programs is the path of least resistance. No new controversial programs required, just simple amendments to existing programs.

Is there anything in the constitution that says a president can't have business interests ?

As in conflict of interests ?

If elected, Trump isn't going to materially change anything other than the name plate on the oval office.

He doesn't want to end up dead in the backseat of a Lincoln convertible.
