Andreasen schools Draghi on the merits of having a national currency

Some recent video from Europe where a Representative from the UK Independence Party asks some pretty good questions of the ECBs Draghi, related to currency sovereignty.

Draghi responds while hopelessly caught up in Monetarism. He seems beyond reason in this regard. "There is no trade-off between austerity and growth".

So the right questions are being asked over there, at some level.

He's all over the place. He doesn't answer the question, but babbles on about accomodative policy by the ECB. He says raising taxes will "surely get you a recession," but then goes on to say, "unless you implement structural reforms." Yet those structural reforms that he is referring to are budget cuts at the national level. Reduction of deficits, etc. These are the very things creating the weak economic environment and high unemployment in Europe.

Neoliberalism...a dangerous, destructive disease that is widespread among the world's leading policymakers.

And don't forget, selling off all valuable public assets at firesale prices will cause the confidence fairy to magically swoop in and save the day! Just like praying before the football gave will cause the almighty to pick your team over the other one.

This was the woman who found a several million euro fraud in the Commission and was fired because she denounced it.

dear matt,

change the title please. "schools" is not proper english...

SR

"to school" verb - to teach, to educate

SR,

It's kind of slang ... but that is the title that the UKIP put on the YouTube so I just copied it.

Matt,

The English is right. It is not slang. It is a proper use of the word -- as I said above. An alternative way of saying the same thing is - "Andreasen educates Draghi on the merits of having a national currency." "Educates" and "schools" in this context are interchangeable.

Sounds good then...
