Voltaire Network — Open Letter on Donald Trump from GOP National Security Leaders

We the undersigned, members of the Republican national security community, represent a broad spectrum of opinion on America’s role in the world and what is necessary to keep us safe and prosperous. We have disagreed with one another on many issues, including the Iraq war and intervention in Syria. But we are united in our opposition to a Donald Trump presidency. Recognizing as we do, the conditions in American politics that have contributed to his popularity, we nonetheless are obligated to state our core objections clearly:….
Mr. Trump’s own statements lead us to conclude that as president, he would use the authority of his office to act in ways that make America less safe, and which would diminish our standing in the world. Furthermore, his expansive view of how presidential power should be wielded against his detractors poses a distinct threat to civil liberty in the United States. Therefore, as committed and loyal Republicans, we are unable to support a Party ticket with Mr. Trump at its head. We commit ourselves to working energetically to prevent the election of someone so utterly unfitted to the office.
These folks really don't like the Donald.

This is superhilarious to observe from abroad, I hope you guys are having the same fun. The more they whine and cry the more I hope he wins the nomination.

Is truly the beginning of the end for both establishment parties as we knew them.

I,

I was laughing so hard watching the thing in Detroit last night my eyes were watering!

Penis size innuendo, etc completely off the hook! Cant even make it up!

If Trump wins Cruz and Rubio are finished imo... he will "get even" with them that is his main mantra... Trump="get even" ...

Its up or out for Cruz and Rubio at this point...

Mike,

Should be "Act in ways that would make Israel less safe..."

Meanwhile, Trump has pledged full support for Israel if he is President... they will not take him at his mere word pledging his full unmerited favor ... he has to take their munnie for them to believe him this is textbook Old Testament 101 .... vERY interesting to observe this phenom from my vantage point...

The neocons were shitting themselves last evening over Trump's respect for Putin. Looks like those morons think Putin is Stalin 2.0

There was no bigger anti communist than Nixon, yet he could get together with Brezhnev and respect the power of his adversary.

Other than the few like Trump, the modern day Republican Party is beyond repair.

Ignacio also, if Trump wins imo it will end up influencing what goes on over there for you all in Europe big league...

Dubya was on board with that too, but that didn't change what the US considers its "national interest" (i.e. global hegemony). At least Trump wasn't as paranormal as Dubya in claiming that he looked into Putin's eyes and saw a good man.

All this stuff goes out the window as soon as they get elected. Personal beliefs are marginal. Look at Carter, allegedly the biggest pinko the world has ever seen. Military spending went through the roof under him; he planned to expand the US military by more than Reagan; he planned a rapid reaction force to invade any and all Middle Eastern states; and on and on. Acting "tough" matters far more than actually being "tough", how ever you want to define "tough".

Matt, Trump appears to not have a cowboy foreign policy inclination, which surely bugs the shit out of chicken hawk neocons. He's much more likely to negotiate than shoot, which even Democrats should appreciate--certainly a better option than that crazy hawk, Hillary.

John, Read my above comment. Trump might sellout, but at least there's a chance he might not be trigger happy. He does pride himself as a negotiator. The rest of the lot in both parties are simply insane warmongers.

The deep state folks got to him, just like they get to all presidents. They got to Obama, too. The only president that didn't was JFK after they rolled him on Cuba, and in the view of many that was the kiss of death. If Trump wins, we'll whether they get to him, too, one way or another.

Well John, is better than the rest of idiots who are eager to start WWIII because 'reasons'. At this point though I'm more worried on who is going to be on Trump's executive that of Trump himself, this also has been pointed out here on MNE...

Since this started a few months ago my opinion has been that the biggest bonus of having Trump (and/or Sanders) run and win presidency will be to highlight how dysfunctional and broken the bureaucratic apparatus is, to the point to show the citizens they they have completely lost control over the state apparatus no matter who they elect (as long as the elected one is a complete revolutionary whose mandate is to break down the establishment, which I don't think is what is going on -yet- on this election cycle, which both of the outsiders are not IMO). This election cycle IMO is the preamble of to what's to come...

Trump being advised by ex-U.S. Lieutenant General who favors closer Russia ties
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-trump-advisor-idUSMTZSAPEC2Q6G3JRH

"The sources, former foreign policy officials in past administrations, said retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, who was chief of the Defense Intelligence Agency under President Barack Obama from 2012-2014, has been informally advising Trump."

General Flynn was the guy who told the Obama admin four years ago that they were creating a monster: ISIS, and detailed what the consequences of arming them would be. So Obama sacked him. About a month ago, Flynn said that after meeting Trump and talking to him for two -three hours, that he came away with an entirely different POV about him. Flynn said that Trump asked insightful incisive questions--which surprised Flynn—and showed a grasp of detail that impressed him.

MRW said...

Flynn was the guy who told both Der Spiegel and Al-Jazeera last October in explosive interviews that the Obama Admin created ISIS. He said he warned the White House but they ignored his warnings.

Trump will have no compunction going after Clinton, woman or not. I can HARDLY wait to watch the debates between those two. And if anyone thinks that he will spare her Bill’s peccadilloes, they’re fooling themselves.
