This is shocking, but this is what the general public gets told and on the whole they believe. Written for The Wall Street Journal, by Anders Fogh Rasmussen, a former prime minister of Denmark and a former secretary-general of NATO. But don't waste your time reading this BS, I will give you a brief taster.
The world needs such a policeman if freedom and prosperity are to prevail against the forces of oppression, and the only capable, reliable and desirable candidate for the position is the United States. The presidential elections thus come at a pivotal point in history.
The Middle East is torn by war. In North Africa, Libya has collapsed and become a breeding ground for terrorists. In Eastern Europe, a resurgent Russia has brutally attacked and grabbed land by force from Ukraine. China is flexing its muscles against its neighbors—and the rogue state of North Korea is threatening a nuclear attack.
Mr. Rasmussen, a former prime minister of Denmark and a former secretary-general of NATO, is the author of “The Will to Lead—America’s Indispensable Role in the Global Fight For Freedom,” out this month from HarperCollins/Broadside Books. So, the good US (that is, Washington) goes around the world spreading freedom, fairness, and democracy and or no other reason other than the goodness of its heart, and is prepared to spend $trillions on this on our behalf. American tax payers pay for it all, of course, - thanks, you guys - while the wealth just happens to come rolling back from the colonies into the pockets of the billionaire class.

Rasmussen is the ultimate stooge of the neo-liberal warmongers.
His career shows how NATO and the EU are basically puppets of the large rentier interests. He has been among the most strident proponents of Ukraine's military actions in the East, and a defender of the asset-stripping "deal" proposed by Europe in the first place. First, as president of the European Union, and later as Secretary General of NATO, he embodied the two arms of the West's model of coercion -- the economic and military approaches to sustaining the hegemonic power of capital.
I never knew much about him until today. Thanks.

Stop spreading this myth, Kaivey. American federal tax payers pay for zip. Why do you have poster privileges on this site? This is mainstream bullshit that every MMT-er knows is bogus.
