Is Donald Trump running scared? Appears that way.
President Donald Trump tapped respected scholar and leading Vladimir Putin critic Fiona Hill to serve as the top Russia adviser on the National Security Council, signaling a shift in attitude toward Moscow.
Hill, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution who earlier served at the National Intelligence Council, was offered the position of White House senior director for Europe and Russia prior to the ousting of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, an administration official told Foreign Policy on Thursday.
It is not yet clear whether Hill has accepted the post. Her appointment is likely to garner bipartisan support from lawmakers who have expressed concerns about President Donald Trump's expressed desire to forge closer ties with Moscow at the expense of NATO allies....Washington Free Beacon

Trump's not quite ready to get even yet... dealing with Obama atrophied military...
Trump's done a back flip because of a buzz? He's changed his major geopolitical policy because of this nonsense? What a flake. It's true that it was within international waters, but it's also true that it was a mere seventy kilometres from a Russian naval base. Imagine Russian warships that far off Norfolk, Virginia. What do you think the reaction would be? The US Navy wouldn't go out to meet the wandering Russkies?
Clearly Iran's big mistake is existing. Trump's going to "get even" with a country that has never threatened or harmed the US, and in fact has helped the US capture more Al Qaeda figures than any other country! Chickenhawk Trump does see himself as a strategic and military genius, even though any action against Iran will make Dubya's Iraq disaster look like a tea party, and furthermore the US will be met with a good deal of Russian and Chinese resistance: at a minimum, Iran would acquire huge amounts of the latest Russian and Chinese missile technology, the kind that not even the US has any counter measures against. Faced with such madness, all patriotic US military personnel should claim that they've suddenly come down with "heel spurs" and are unable to carry out such a lunatic order.
As I've said in the past, if Trump nixes détente with Russia it may appease the MIC. Increased military spending may also help. In return, they'll tolerate his presidency.
The downside is that it may lead to the end of the world.
