Max Greenwood — Trump hits Bush: Invading Iraq 'the single worst decision ever made'

He got that right. Monumental strategic blunder, although I would argue that escalating in Vietnam was probably a worse blunder.

In futuristic hindsight that will probably pale in comparison to the massive nuclear rearmament, space weapons, and yuge military budgets that we're seeing now.

In that light, the really monumental strategic blunders will be seen as Clinton's bombing Serbia and advancing NATO toward Russia, along with G. W. Bush's unilateral abrogation of the ABM treaty. These in particular not only alienated Russia but also put Russian leaders on notice that the US was on the attack.

Given that Trump supported the invasion, presumably he's also a dumb bastard too? Or are those recordings of him in 2003 saying he supported the invasion "fake"? Whenever Trump's in trouble he lashes out. The target here seems to be the intelligence agencies.Trump's getting his retaliation in first but time's running out for the genius.

He was against it but once the decision is made you have to support the effort...

Matt, zero evidence of that. He's on record as being for it and made statements to that effect. Other than his word, which conflicts with the actual evidence we have, there is zero evidence for Trump being against the war and the occupation.

See for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33WrJfbKkiQ

Trump's only argument seems to be that he was in the private sector then.

In January 2003, less than eight weeks before the invasion Trump tells Neil Cavuto: "Either you attack or you don’t attack." Other than this being an utterly meaningless observation, at no point does Trump take the opportunity to take a stand against the war.

See: https://www.factcheck.org/2016/02/donald-trump-and-the-iraq-war/

Matt: "...but once the decision is made you have to support the effort..."

Once a stupid decision has been made, you have to keep supporting it rather than do the decent thing? Got it. That's real moral principle.

Well not really it was Neoliberal "socialism" in action, the public purse subsidizing the private gain:-

Whenever government is involved and that is always in a modern monetary production economy, there is a public contribution and that is distributed iaw policy decisions.

Neoliberalism is the political theory that equates liberalism with economic liberalism + distribution of the public contribution to capital on the assumption that a rising tide lifts all boats. so that favoring capital increases capital formation, which the driver of growth and consequent trickle down.

Trump would talk to Sean Hannity and say it wasn’t a good idea I was a regular listener of Sean’s...

But then once you go in you have to play to win... I didn’t think they’d do it at the time... I also didn’t think they would do Gulf War1 ...

BTW for those with a clock on our MENA ops I’d remind them that we had to send Federal troops into the south in the 1960s to enforce civil rights which was 100 years past the Civil War where the civil rights were originally established...

Change can take a looooooonnnnggg time....
