Defend Democracy — France, UK, Germany to Stick to Iran Deal Irrespective of US Decision

The foreign ministers of France, Germany and the United Kingdom have issued a joint statement, assuring that the EU would maintain the Iran nuclear deal, calling it the best way to avoid nuclear proliferation.

It begins. Washington loses allies on Iran policy.

This is amusing.

On one side is Europe, which does about €1.87 billion euros worth of trade with Iran each month (And that number grows by about 17% per year.)

On the other side is Israel, which wants to punish Europe by isolating and blockading Iran.

In the middle is Trump, who is desperate to please his Israeli masters, but who doesn’t want to annoy Europe. MPs from European parliaments have been sending letters to Trump for months (hundreds of letters) asking him not to scrap the Iran deal.

What will Trump do? My guess is that Trump will say that he has decided to “renegotiate the deal.”

In other words, Trump will do nothing. In this way Trump can look “tough” while the public moves on to other issues.
