Sputnik — Ukraine's Civil War Threatens to Expand to Directly Involve NATO, Russia

Officials from Ukraine's breakaway Donetsk People's Republic have stated publicly that Sunday's killing of militia commander Arseny Pavlov was a declaration of war by Kiev. Experts speaking to one of Russia's leading online newspapers warn that the smoldering conflict needs just one big spark to grow into a war that pulls in both NATO and Russia.
Will we look back after the  dust of WWIII has settled and compare Motorola's assassination with that of Archduke Franz Ferdinand?

I was just feeling over the last day that while things have been bad globally for some time and the pace is accelerating, they are really beginning to spiral down now.

Daniel Lazare — US Hawks Advance a War Agenda in Syria

The U.S. government, having illegally sent American troops into Syria [embedded with insurgents], is now threatening to attack the Syrian military if it endangers those troops [by defending Syrian sovereignty], an Orwellian twist that marks a dangerous escalation, explains Daniel Lazare.…
“As we’ve said in the past,” he added, “the Syrian regime would be well-advised not to interfere with coalition forces or our partners.”
Such statements are little less than Orwellian since the United States has essentially invaded Syria by inserting military forces without Syrian government permission in violation of international law. What Davis was saying, therefore, is that the U.S. will prevent Syria from protecting its own forces on its own soil, which was rather like the Wehrmacht condemning Poland for daring to defend its own territory in September 1939.…
Obama has opposed a no-fly zone because it would draw the U.S. into a direct conflict with the Assad government and likely its Russian and Iranian backers as well. But now with the U.S. promising to continue patrolling the skies over Hasakah, he finds himself backing into a no-fly zone regardless.
The confrontation begs the question of who is really calling the shots with regard to Syria, the President or well-placed hawks whose specialty is maneuvering the White House into doing their bidding.

It also raises the question of the role of the Clinton presidential campaign. The White House is obviously coordinating closely with Clinton’s campaign headquarters, and with prospects of a landslide victory that will give Democrats control of both houses of Congress plus the presidency, the stakes couldn’t be higher. But since a quick and easy victory over Assad and his Russian and Iranian allies would vindicate the neocon position, the issue is whether pro-Hillary forces are pulling strings to make events in Syria go her way as well.…
Obama’s aggressive actions in Hasakah may help Clinton against Trump but they could all too easily blow up in the administration’s face. War, indeed, packs just as many surprises as politics.
As I suggested some time ago was likely to happen. I don't see this happening in spire of the president but because of the president. It shows how rogue the US has gone.

The neocons, liberal interventionists, and war hawks are all on board, the only opposition being from foreign policy realists and anti-war activists. Donald Trump is foreign policy realist while Hillary Clinton is a liberal inteventionist with ties to neocons and war hawks, in particular Scoop Jackson Democrats aka Cold War liberals, generally with ties to the military-intelligence-industrial-congressional complex.

Colonel Cassad — It is easier to liquidate the Ukraine than it is to return Crimea

Given the preservation of the current regime in Russia, it is much easier for the RF to liquidate the Ukraine itself than to return Crimea, which will be a clear act of capitulation. The meaning of these synchronous threats of ultimative nature is to show Russia once again that there won't be compromise scenarios and so the war at this stage will proceed on the principle "everything or nothing", which is what the USA originally insisted on. In this respect, today's accusations http://www.rbc.ua/rus/news/mid-rf-obvinil-poroshenko-podryve-minskogo-1426531615.html (in Russian) of the Russian MFA directed at the junta are a sign of looming escalation borne of the lack of negotiating capacity of the USA and the junta.
Naturally, Russia won't return Crimea, and so we may expect a multi-year confrontation. So, the current Kremlin line towards preparing for life under the conditions of prolonged sanctions is quite adequate for the current situation.

Minsk agreement going nowhere.
The only thing that is interesting in all of these accusations directed at the junta of doing what it always does and violating all of the agreements that were signed with it is the terms when the next sequence of fraud and deceit will conclude with high-intensity military action. The fact that Kiev is not going to implement the Minsk agreements is absolutely obvious and it makes absolutely no sense to discuss how Kiev can actually implement them. These types of announcements by the leadership of the DPR and the LPR as well as the yesterday's statements by the MFA of the RF have long-term meaning only in the aspect of declaring the fascist junta to be fully responsible for the upcoming military action.

Zero Hedge — How Russia Plans To Retaliate For The Saudi-Driven Collapse In Oil

How to play oil in light of geopolitics.

As Greek Kathimerini reported, "Greece's Foreign Minister Nikolaos Kotzias is to visit Moscow on Wednesday to hold talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, Russia's Interfax and TASS news agencies reported on Monday citing a source in the Russian Foreign Ministry."
In other words, at precisely the same time as the FinMin is in Brussels discussing the fate, or lack thereof, of Greece in the Eurozone, the new Greek foreign minister will be in the Kremlin, getting instant updates from Brussels and perhaps discussing the fate of Greece in the Eurasian Economic Union.
Which means that as soon as tomorrow night, if the Eurozone is indeed intent on kicking Greece out as some have suggested, we may know if not Russia but Europe is who suddenly becomes more "isolated", as one of its current member flips allegiance to the man most hated by the entire "developed" world.
