New Survey Shows Young People Are Staying Liberal and Conservatives Are Dying Off
Oh well, my new attitude about trying to make peace with the right didn't last long.
On twitter I put out research showing how most young people tend to be left leaning, but some people on the right told me that they will see sense and go conservative as they get older, as people always do, they said.
So I put out articles saying that this isn't the case, but they refused to believe it (which I can understand, because nobody changes their views very easily) and they came viscously back at me. This made me angry and so I found the article below and tweeted it saying to them that when they are all gone the world will be a better place.
Oh well, back to the drawing board!
But the Rebel Wisdom video has intrigued me. They say we don't like looking at where we might be wrong, or how other people may have a different set of values and fairness which are different to ours but maybe equally valid. When we accept these differences and ambiguities, we can grow. It's what Carl Jung called Individuation, where we accept our shadow. This is not to say that the right is the shadow, but these forces within ourselves maybe.
For obvious reasons, the broadly liberal demographic trends in American politics have received much less attention since the 2016 election. Yet the fact remains that America is politically sorted by generations in a way it never has before. The oldest voters are the most conservative, white, and Republican, and the youngest voters the most liberal, racially diverse, and Democratic. There is absolutely no sign the dynamic is abating during the Trump years. If anything, it is accelerating.

We think the trend in previous generations has been from left to right as the electorate ages. Even if that is true, is there really going to be such a dramatic shift in political leaning as to redress such a huge imbalance between Tory and Labour support within this generation?
Add into the mix the views of the next age group up:
In the 24–49 age bracket, we’re talking 28% for Tories vs 49% for Labour.
Averaging that out, that’s over 50% of 18–49 year olds for Labour, and about 19% for Tories.
In order then for these current generation’s views to mirror those of the older generations, it would require a 50% swing to the right.
That means that 50% of the current 50ish% of 18–49 year olds who are left-wingers would need to do a complete about-face turn sometime in middle age.
It’s possible, sure, but it seems unlikely.

Jon Bailes - Neoliberalism Is Strange
It's a quite strange video, but I followed it okay at the beginning where Jon Bailes quotes from his book. In the rest he elaborates on his theories using the game, Life is Strange, but I had to slow it down to 0.75 to be able to follow it.
What interested me is how Jon says we feel that we must maximise everything we do in our lives. Not only at work do we feel we need to achieve as much as we can, but also in our home life too: quality time with the kids; engaging in hobbies or sports; being at the gym; going out to places; visiting friends and family; having friends around for dinner; watching a good film with your partner, etc, Gee!
I remember years ago Quentin Crisp being interviewed - he was a transvestite gay who wrote the book, The Naked Civil Servant way back in the 60's - and he was asked what he liked doing the most, and I loved his answer, he said, 'nothing, I love doing absolutely nothing'. Awesome!
I remember as a teen and a young man where I loved my leasure time, where I didn't do much at all, really, just some art, sketching, listening to music, reading, dreaming, chatting about everything and nothing. There seemed to be hours and hours spare.
But as the years went by everything started to evolve around work, and then trying to fit a social life into what was left. I would want to stay in yet again, but I would struggle out to dancing - lindy hop or jive - or to the cinema, or for a meal, or the pub, etc, with it always on my mind I had to get up early in the morning, and when I did finally get to work the next day, I would feel absolutely shattered. Neoliberalism is boring!

At one point we were all asked if we could think of any ideas where our company could branch out and make more money, after all, our jobs depended on it, we were told, and the competition was hot, they said, so we needed to be innovative and more dynamic.
Lots of people came with ideas, and everyone, especially the managers, seemed to be trying to out-compete each other with the best one. Even I came up with a good idea at one point, well, so said one of the managers.
Most people did very long hours at the company, and I wondered, if really, they were all as bored as I was. I looked out of the window and saw the beautiful green fields a few miles away being bathed in gorgeous sunshine and longed to be there.

The workplace has been overwhelmed by a mad, Kafkaesque infrastructure of assessments, monitoring, measuring, surveillance and audits, centrally directed and rigidly planned, whose purpose is to reward the winners and punish the losers. It destroys autonomy, enterprise, innovation and loyalty, and breeds frustration, envy and fear. Through a magnificent paradox, it has led to the revival of a grand old Soviet tradition known in Russian as tufta. It means falsification of statistics to meet the diktats of unaccountable power.

The Times - Meet Boris’s Babies — they’re young, fun and working class

Blue Labour say they represent the working class, who they say despise Corbyn and his 'communist' supporters, plus they also despise the Remain Labour centre.
Blue Labour are the very patriotic working class, with many supporting the Monarchy, the Establishment, and the ruling class. They call Corbyn supporters, like me, communists, not because we are 'anti-capitalists', but because we dislike the British establishment with its imperialism.
Blue Labour are social conservatives who also intensely dislike Identity Politics, and from their tweets they seem to like Boris Johnson quite a bit.
I've just tweeted saying how Boris Johnson and Theresa May approved of a picture book to be used in schools which had coloured drawings of boys holding hands with boys, and girls holding hands with girls, and pictures of two men (daddies) taking their children to school, and likewise, two women doing the same (mumies, they said). The book said this was normal. These conservatives are far more progressive than me.
I can't say I'm too comfortable with Identity Politics either, although I don't get too worked up about it, I'm really more interested in class politics, Third World politics, and anti-imperialism.
I'm working class myself and was brought up on a council estate on benefits as my dad became too ill to work. I worked in electronics and electrical engineering. I thought I might be able to bridge the gap with Blue Labour but after reading their tweets I don't think so anymore. They seem to want a conservative party which will take care of their interests. There's nothing wrong with that, but if they are not socialists, or don't want to work along side them, then there is no place in the Labour Party for them either, in my opinion. I'm 100% Corbyn.
I remember when I was twenty years old and I was sent to a depot to cover an electrician who was on holiday. At tea break I was reading Gaddafi's Green Book. The other guys asked me what I was reading and I said it was America's foreign policy towards the Third World. 'Oh right', they replied. I was not part of any socialist group or the Labour Party, but my friends were leftists.

Britain has the harshest austerity program in Europe and people are dying because of it. More babies are dying and the very old may be left without help in their homes. The most devastated areas are the working class ones which voted Brexit.

Now we have five more years of a party which has brought neoliberalism to the UK for the past 40 years.
I live in a Conservative area and I tried to think why so many of my neighbours have always voted Tory. They are not deep into politics, but I think a lot of them think the posh people should be in charge. The gentry, they believe, run all the companies, the banks, the military, the law, the institutions, and so they think they should run the country.
They see the gentry as having high status - the Toffs, Lords and Barons. They think these people will look after them, when they only look after themselves and have caused havoc to the lives of most British people. None of my neighbours are well off, they work long hours for low pay with not many perks or holidays. They are exploited.
The younger British voters, though, couldn't care less for the Tories. Red means left in the UK.
The Labour politician, Emily Thornberry, recently did an interview where she said that on the doorstep people didn't think Jeremy Corbyn was a leader who could run the country. She said that many families she spoke to had family members in the army and they were scared for their safety. This was despite the fact that Labour pledged to spend more on the military and reverse Tory cutbacks.
The Tories send the British soldiers to fight in uneccessary wars, often illegal, and Jeremy would have brought the boys home. But the Tories will send them off to die in wars for British and American imperialism. Propaganda is Institutionalised.

The gentry, they believe, run all the companies, the banks, the military, the law, the institutions, and so they think they should run the country.
They see the gentry as having high status - the Toffs, Lords and Barons. They think these people will look after them, when they only look after themselves and have caused havoc to the lives of most British people. None of my neighbours are well off, they work long hours for low pay with not many perks or holidays. They are exploited.
The younger British voters, though, couldn't care less for the Tories. Red means left in the UK.
The Labour politician, Emily Thornberry, recently did an interview where she said that on the doorstep people didn't think Jeremy Corbyn was a leader who could run the country. She said that many families she spoke to had family members in the army and they were scared for their safety. This was despite the fact that Labour pledged to spend more on the military and reverse Tory cutbacks.
The Tories send the British soldiers to fight in uneccessary wars, often illegal, and Jeremy would have brought the boys home. But the Tories will send them off to die in wars for British and American imperialism. Propaganda is Institutionalised.
