Alfred W. McCoy — How a pink flower defeated the world's sole superpower

It wasn't just the militants but also and the opium poppy and heroin trade. Fascinating story well told.

Not mentioned is that the drug trade is also undoing the US in Latin America.

The toll this has taken already and is still taking is astonishing.

That's a Cultural Auto-Immune disease if I ever saw one.

It's a war against our own habits, and against human nature.

100% prohibition doesn't work. How long does that take to sink in?

If you're gonna kill people for providing drugs, why not just kill the people taking excessive amounts of drugs ... (or LET them kill themselves).

All is fair in love & war & anything that gets in the way of what's killing those you love?

Let's make it simple. "Thou shalt not kill ... unless it's someone enabling someone you love to kill themselves."

So, if we make assisted suicide legal .... won't that legalize ALL drugs ... by definition?
