An economics, investment, trading and policy blog with a focus on Modern Monetary Theory (MMT). We seek the truth, avoid the mainstream and are virulently anti-neoliberalism.
Bread is currently subsidised by the state so that the typical Egyptian flat bread sell at about 1 cent! Egypt's new dictator is a neoliberal ideologue and wants to do away with the subsidies. Doesn't bode well. Further civil strife to be expected.
Spot on, Bob. Expect slaughter, and the military dictatorship will claim it is fighting Isis and Al Qaeda (which will only push people to the religious maniacs). Egypt's backers (the US) will copy paste the same lie, in the full knowledge of the truth.
Don't be too surprised if in a few years time the New York Fire Department is searching through the rubble of the new Freedom Tower for survivors.
"They that sow the wind shall reap the whirlwind" isn't right, though. Those who sow the wind don't reap the whirlwind - innocent people do.
