Sputnik — Bernie Sanders: US Should Maintain Obama's Position on Russia Through NATO

Bernie decides to own Obama's foreign and military policy rather than doing nuance, putting those issues to rest. Looks like no space between Sanders and Clinton on this, other than Bernie rejecting Kissinger's advice, which is much more realistic and benign than the neocons setting the Obama administration agenda. Hillary actually wins this one. Their differences are entirely domestic.

I really don't think Bernie has a handle on the foreign thing. Since foreign policy is a president's major portfolio, that's a problem he needs to work on and there doesn't seem to be any team he can draw on. Clearly, HRC sees a soft spot to attack.

Contrast with

Arch-conservative former GOP presidential candidate Pat Buchanan sounds like an anti-war leftie in comparison with Obama, Clinton and Sanders.

I now have zero whatever for Bernie. He’s an idiot. Not ready for prime time.

Tom Hickey said...

He's shooting from the hip and ad-libbing his way. Not a good strategy against a seasoned player like HRC.

Not ready for prime time.

The only one on both sides who is "ready for the job" is HRC, and that should be setting off alarm bells.

There is something really wrong with this "democratic" process.

Tom, HuffPo headline tonight: "Sanders Rips Clinton For Citing The Admiration Of Henry Kissinger.” He’s really ignorant.

If you have time, there’s 3+ min from 4:40 to 7 min, then 3+ min from 34:18 to 37:43 min here:

Why doesn’t Sanders know this?!?

I'm very satisfied with the democratic process these days...

Bernie is going to need the munnie in a General Election so he has to say this...

iow if Bernie wins the Primary then this position will help him with his potential donor pool... its the smart move...

We are going to get a pretty stark contrast in this election... Trump v Democrat is going to be high contrast winner will have a clear mandate...

I thought of that, but I don’t think he’s that cunning. Besides, there’s no reason for him to say that; he’s known to resist war. He would have been better off asking Hillary why she didn’t listen to Kissinger., instead of just ‘admiring’ him, like some brown-nose highschooler.

I do, however, think Trump is that cunning. he knows damn well that if he wins, he’s going to win by a landslide. And then he can do whatever he wants, including changing his mind. Because the people who vote for him will be assured that their guy got in, and will leave it to him to handle whatever comes up.

He's been pretty consistent on his views over the years....

Democratic process working just fine, Tom. Our divided electorate is where things get messy, no matter who wins.

....If Trump wins and changes his mind on the primary issue that got him elected (illegal immigration) then his core constituents will turn on him on the dime.

Mal another thing that is hilarious is all the lefties complaining about "citizens united!" and going all around saying "we have to get the munnie out of politics!" LOL and then here comes Trump and doesnt spend ANYTHING he just uses Twitter for free and is running away with it...

Matt,

Trump is rewriting all the political rules in this one. This is a silent majority election if there ever was one too. It's also a repudiation of the left's PC culture along with the Ferguson Effect, which has violent crime in my city (Chicago) and others like it, going through the roof.

And one more thing. The so called Blue Wall is going to be revealed after this election as a myth.

No one told him. That's what advisers and staff are for.

I am talking about the selection process. There is no one running I will vote for.

Clarification. None of the candidates knows squat about economics other than the conventional failed approach. Therefore domestic policy is failed out of the gate. None of the candidates knows squat about military science. This is a recipe for disaster. The only candidate that knows anything about foreign policy is HRC and she is a neocon.

Not only is the US screwed, so is the world.

Peter Pan said...

Trump is not a Neocon. Small hope, but it is there.

Trump was on TV last night saying he'll balance the budget sooner than anyone else running. Certainly out of paradigm with us here. I have my doubts about him but less so than the other turds who are in the race. And to be honest I'm essentially a single issue voter this time around. I've had enough wage destroying legal and illegal immigration.

Tom if Trump puts in $500B of tariffs then the deficit will about go away cet par and domestic output has to increase markedly with the associated increase in necessary domestic employment...

Not a JG for sure, ie "the poor we will always have" (as long as this current collective 'borrow > default > forgive > borrow ....' consciousness remains) but it would be better results domestically than current as far as employment/productive contribution...

Might be best we can hope for in this era...

Tom Hickey said...

if Trump puts in $500B of tariffs

You mean "withdraws from WTO and starts a trade war"?

Matt Franko said...

That's what he says he is going to do Tom... his policy is for balanced trade... "build a wall", etc...

Excellent observation Matt! A trade account in balance or surplus means the budget deficit could be much lower or in balance without impairing aggregate demand. Wow! Am I starting to sound like a Keynesian? Aside from that, if it's going to come down to Sanders vs. Trump in the general election, I see it as a choice between Socialism (if you can call it that) or Fascism. In body language and facial expressions, Trump reminds me of Benito Mussolini. Although, I guess Trump should get credit for opposing the Iraq war. It remains to be seen if he can resist the Siren call of the neocons and stay out of Syria.

Russia is now saying that Syria could be the tripwire for WW3, http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/russia/12153112/Russia-warns-of-new-world-war-starting-in-Syria.html,. Mark Twain once said... "History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme". If so, does the Syrian civil war rhyme with the Spanish civil war, 1936-39?
