Raul Burbano: Venezuela: a Threat to US Energy Hegemony?

With the MSM being so biased it's hard to find anything which shows the other side of the story, that the old guard ex ruling elite are doing everything in their power to destroy the Venezuelan economy so they can seize control again, and they have the backing of Washington.

The international media with its biased coverage of the conflict in Venezuela has failed to adequately report on violent actions against government supporters by extremist sectors of the opposition. It has however, diligently perpetuated the opposition narrative that the crisis in Venezuela is the sole responsibility of the Maduro  government, a dictatorship on the brink of collapse resorting to violence against peaceful protesters in a desperate bid to hold on to power.  These allegations have little merit, and are similar to accusations made against former president Hugo Chávez. The hardline opposition has never accepted the electoral legitimacy of the Bolivarian governments, and its violent demonstrations have had the full support and backing of the U.S. government. In 2014 alone, U.S government documents show that Obama’s administration channelled $5M dollars to opposition groups to help “strengthen” and “protect” democracy in Venezuela. The Trump administration, in turn, has provided unprecedented political support to jailed opposition leader,  Leopoldo López , who has been found guilty of public incitement to violence and association to commit a crime. There has been close coordination between opposition-led National Assembly leaders and White House national security advisor H.R. McMaster on how to address the political impasse in Venezuela.
The international media also puts the blame for the economic crisis facing Venezuela firmly on the government’s shoulders. They fail to mention the role of business producers of goods who regularly hoard basic items to create shortages and public discontent. Some believe the economic war contributed to the PSUV’s defeat during the 2015 parliamentary elections – due to the lack of black beans. Black beans are a staple of the Venezuelan diet and for some time before election day these had disappeared completely but the day after voting they were back on supermarket shelves.

“Regime Change”: US Policymakers Openly Plot Against Venezuela, Tony Cartalucci

The US media – particularly organizations operating from under right cover – have portrayed Venezuela’s economic crisis as primarily related to “socialism” and corruption. In reality, factors that would have only impeded the full realization of Venezuela’s economic progress have been intentionally compounded through US sanctions, economic sabotage, and political subversion to precipitate the currently unfolding socioeconomic and humanitarian crisis.

I kind of have to agree with Matt, at some point people has to start looking inwards and stop blaming it all on others. A country like Venezuela really has to do it all wrong to failing at such level, foreign countries cannot do anything if they really don't screw it up at the level they have as they have plenty of natural resources to live on its own. But no, instead is easier to live of screwing others on oil prices and not actually doing anything useful with that money.

Well, get used to it, oil is not going up any time soon. Unfortunately we cannot get rid completely of the strategic value of carbon based energy sources yet, so other useless nations like those in the MENA will implode, but at some point it will happen.

If you self-sabotage yourself it will take little outside interference and undermining to fuck up a regime. Take Greece, a complete failure of a state, keep going down the rabbit hole, yet at the important times they never take the difficult choice, they should have quit the euro by now, but very few Greeks were in favour of this. I'm sorry Eurocrats are fucking you up, but you keep putting with it, this is what you get. I would say the same if it was my own country too, because it's reality (same goes for working class allowing getting fucked up over by the status quo in developed nations). Same applies to Venezuela, they had every little chance to make it work, and they keep making it worse, congrats, you are getting the blowback, and I hope the government is overthrown and someone better gets in (unfortunately it will be some stupid neolib graduated in Harvard or from the University of Chicago, but that's an other story) because you have to be blind to not see there is a big problem in there.

It makes me laugh when people say that Venezuela screwed people with the oil prices, when the establishment says it loves the markets. Markets apparently get the piece right, or do they? Did the Saudis pump out more oil because Washington wanted to destroy Russia's economy as well as Venezuela's?

We don't know how difficult it was for the Venezuelan government to diversify when its ruling elite was working against it.

In the 70's Heath's government, as well as Callaghan's and Wilson's, were brought down by the City of London engineering economic crises behind the scenes.

Monopolists had control of the price for quite a while Kaivey... NA has increased production by 6+ m bpd so they have displaced the monopoly production and also we changed the law to allow US exports so Katy bar the door this thing is just getting started...
