Cali Garlic producer raises wages by $2/hr

Hmmmm maybe there is really something to "supply and demand!" after all I might have to take it all back. (No just kidding...)

Get used to this type of story and imo the Fed is not going to like this trend in wages and should just go right to their monetarist playbook and raise the risk free rate and thus antagonize Trump; gonna get interesting.

BTW, this nascent trend of increasing wages was able to be picked up months ago by observing trends in withholding taxes in the DTS.

Christopher Ranch, which grows garlic on 5,000 acres in Gilroy, Calif., announced recently that it would hike pay for farmworkers from $11 an hour to $13 hour this year, or 18%, and then to $15 in 2018.
the effect of the move was immediately obvious. At the end of last year, the farm was short 50 workers needed to help peel, package and roast garlic. Within two weeks of upping wages in January, applications flooded in. Now the company has a wait-list 150 people long.

"Raise the risk free rate", i.e. raise the welfare proportional to wealth rate.

And some wonder why our money and credit system is so troublesome.

Matt Franko said...

"welfare proportional to savings" maybe...

Hey AA, what about that one time where Jesus gave His disciples like 2 or 3 fishes and a couple loaves of bread, then they fed like a bazillion people with that and then He told them to collect the leftovers and they had even more than when they started? Wow!!!!

Hey AA, in your prayers, you should correct Jesus and tell Him that He was wrong to have created conditions that resulted in a risk free return in excess of what the disciples started with.... I'd get on it!!!!

The risk-free return is not real wealth (e.g. fish) but claims to real wealth. It is thus a form of theft from the poorer (less ability to save) to the richer (more ability to save).

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”

Well the law says we pay interest on govt securities, and the law says the CB has received delegated authority to raise and lower the risk free rate to regulate the economy... so that is what they are doing...

Maybe you are confusing lawlessness with stupidity? or lawlessness with a lack of technical qualification? Those are different things.... exclusive...

Woe to those who enact evil statutes
And to those who constantly record unjust decisions,
So as to deprive the needy of justice
And rob the poor of My people of their rights,
So that widows may be their spoil
And that they may plunder the orphans.

Now what will you do in the day of punishment,
And in the devastation which will come from afar?
To whom will you flee for help?
And where will you leave your wealth?

Nothing remains but to crouch among the captives
Or fall among the slain.

In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away
And His hand is still stretched out.

Yo AA here THIS can be plundered:

"A levirate marriage (Hebrew: yibbum) is mandated by Deuteronomy 25:5-6 of the Hebrew Bible, which obliges the oldest surviving brother of a man who dies childless to marry the widow of his childless deceased brother, with the firstborn child being treated as that of the deceased brother (see also Genesis 38:8) which renders the child the heir of the deceased brother and not the genetic father."

AA here:

"For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it." 1 Tim 6:7

So if we bring in NOTHING, then how can we be "plundered" if we have NOTHING?????

Or are you saying Paul was FOS here?

OR... are you saying at some point after we are in the world, we are at some point given SOMETHING?

If so, then WHEN and HOW are we given this SOMETHING so that then it could be "plundered" even in an orphaned condition????

No references to the Levitical Law in your answer please ....

Not wishing to come between Matt and Andrew, and I probably will regret it, but ...

Just because we bring nothing in and take nothing out, does not mean we have nothing ....

What do you have that is truly yours?

We have been given a Life. And I do not think there is a human being on the planet who understands the true nature of that little Spark, nor the Flame that it has leapt from, nor the magnitude, the beauty of the gift that it is. We have been given a consciousness; given a mind and body. We think our crowning glory is the ‘I’ – the center of our universe. And oh boy –are they plundered. And conditioned. And followers; and believers – living in hope. Every day we rob ourselves; after that the world takes the rest. Long before Timothy and Leviticus said anything about it or began throwing books at one another .... :-)!

"We have been given a Life."

JR this "life" so-called in this body is a humiliation...

"the body of our humiliation" Phil 3:21

Paul says "nothing do WE BRING IN..." which means WE existed BEFORE we were put in these humiliating flesh frames made from soil...

Indeed: "according as He chooses us.... before the disruption of the world..." Eph 1:4

We existed before even Adam and Eve were even created....

This is a complete humiliation to be ruled by these morons.. COM-PLETE...

Ask yourself: "how much more humiliating can it get than to be ruled by f-ing morons who think "we're out of money!" ???

What could be WORSE????

My list is at least very short I can tell you that...

Matt – I cannot speak for your experience. And I want to say I respect you for who you really are (in your ‘heart of hearts’). You may not agree with what I have written below, but in the end we both have to look at ourselves in the mirror and be happy with what we see.

I do not feel humiliated by my body. I am rather glad that I have it, because it means I can converse with you and enjoy the world – right here, right now. This body is an experiencing machine and it allows me to go inside and be in touch with the most exquisite experience there is. So, I am very happy with this ‘dust’ – an incredible vehicle on an incredible earth. On the inside, I see this dust and the inner Self are just opposite poles of the same thing; consciousness hangs in the balance – a witness to both worlds. So, there is appreciation; gratitude; enjoyment and acceptance of the Whole. To a lot of people, this is ‘mysterious’ – not to people who know. Sure, it ain’t science – Yet!

Similarly, I do not feel, I do not experience, that I am ruled by anyone or anything. I know this because my heart says so – and I let the heart be the judge. The ‘heart of a child’ still exists in every adult, and it is the heart that sets you free – not circumstances in the world. Although of course dire circumstance can affect people’s ability to experience that. ‘Dust’ blinds and binds a lot of people’s minds.

One thing worse than thinking we are out of money would be thinking that the heart is out of reach. What would you rather have Matt or Andrew (?): - morons who think we are out of $money or gaming the system – or be out of reach of your heart? :-)!

What happens if you feel you are ruled by somethings or someones? I believe most of us do to some degree or an other feel like this, regardless of how much control we have over our lives, and we know deep inside it is like that. We don't have total control.

In this sense what Matt says, being embodied in flesh is limiting, that's why people screaming "freedom!" this and "freedom!" that makes no sense to me, is rather hypocritical or at least biased view (of what freedom entails at least). This does not mean that it has to be humiliating, but is humiliating in that we are not really free (even have free will, how can we have free will if we are determined by external events, we are "powerless").

Ignacio, you are speaking from your experience. But I am also speaking from my experience: - and saying quite simply, openly, and honestly, there is a place inside of each one of us where we are completely free. We all know, feel, touch, that place inside of us from time to time, and our spirits soar. Despite what may be happening in the vessel (the body), or the ocean on which it sails (the world); or even the clouds passing through the mind. No one has ever shown you how to get to that place, and indeed, you wonder if such a thing is possible; real. No one has ever shown you how to make that place your home. If someone says to you – ‘this place inside of you is more real than the rest of the world put together’ - you wonder? How can this be true? They did not teach me this in business school.

It doesn’t change the outside world, or the problems in it – but it does put them in perspective. There is an inside and an outside and we live in and need both; to understand and experience the nature of both. This is a part of understanding what it means to be human. We steer ourselves by being conscious. We are the bridge, meant to span our own natures.

In the world, the yachtsman sets his sail, and can even progress against the wind if that is necessary. I do not think anyone is ‘powerless’. I do know they need to be shown a safe haven on the inside, where what powers them is obvious; and how to hoist their sail on the outside. But they are not powerless. Nor do they belong to a country or even their family and loved ones; their racial type or a monetary or social system: - they belong to something else entirely. We are human beings – not robots. The heart will only accept reality – it discards everything else: - mind accepts just about anything that drives by.

Freedom is a feeling, an experience: - and even if you are standing in the middle of a battlefield (which we all are on the outside) – still, you can be free. That is why people love freedom so much; because it comes straight from who they are. Nobody can take that place of freedom away from a human being, nor the human power, love and intelligence that keeps it company.

We live far too much on the outside.

”Sounds more like contentment than freedom.”

From the inside, contentment, freedom, peace, clarity, enlightenment, joy, knowledge, wisdom – whatever label you give them – are all facets of the one ‘diamond soul’ - as is said from within the experience. One light shines in the lantern and each facet reveals a ‘quality’ inherent in the light. They are facets of the Self. As qualities of light they reveal the world: - the beauty in you sees the beauty in the world. Hate is an absence of light or love: - it is not a presence. Greed is an absence of generosity.

On the outside freedom and contentment (as qualities) are hijacked, turned from an experience and quality of Being into a concept; and wrongfully attributed, imposed over, some circumstance, ideology, or even a fancy haircut (that will change because the atoms are always in motion). Mother Nature probably finds this highly amusing!

The nature of consciousness in itself is bliss. Identification of the mind with its objects results in the imposition of boundaries on consciousness such that consciousness itself is not experienced. As a result, one experiences the alternation of opposites, e.g. happiness and suffering, which are mental states.

Identification of self with body-mind results in the duality of subject-object. Increasing freedom from boundaries of the mind is experienced as bliss. Bliss has no opposite since consciousness beyond mental activity, that is consciousness in itself, is unitary.

These concepts are empty without actual experience. Hope that helps understanding anyway.

”Hope that helps understanding anyway.”

I think it does Tom.

I would say plug the mind (Chit) into Life (Sat) – then the result is inevitably Bliss (Anand).

As you say the Chitta identifies with its objects and cannot focus on Sat. It is distracted. You will know the analogy of the magnifying glass (Chit) focusing the rays of the sun (Sat) to burn up (Anand) all of the pollution in itself. All of this accomplished in the crucible of human experience.

I hope those garlic workers get a raise ....

Never said we were.

And HEELLLLOOOOO !!!!!! back at you, the Law was given by Moses, Isaiah is among the Prophets. Thus the Old Testament includes the Law AND distinct from it, the Prophets. (Your ignorance is a disgrace.)

Yet when appropriate, I'll quote the Law too since loving our neighbors doesn't include stealing from them.

He has told you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justice,
to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God?
Micah 6:8 [bold added]

Justice certainly does not include stealing, much less from the poor, and one does not walk humbly with God by mocking His Word.
