Non-American readers should realize that when a "man in blue" (police officer) is killed, all stops are pulled out by law enforcement and the security services. It may take years but they don't stop the search until they get their target. Th killing of police officer in the line of duty at the Capitol demonstration, which happened outside the Capitol Building, upped the intensity of the incident and turned it into something even more serious than it would have been otherwise.
