With Kamala Harris, Americans Yet Again Have Trouble Understanding What Multiracial Means — Jennifer Ho

There are some key terms in demographics that apply to the current US in particular, but also the UK through the British Empire and to some degree France with the French Empire. It is also the case with Russia and China, which are multi-ethnic countries.

These terms are "multicultural," "multiracial," and "intersectional." and also "gender" and "sexual orientation."

Culture has to do with tradition. Race has to do with a genetic grouping. They are both included in ethnicity.

Gender and sexual preference involve physical characteristics and behavior.

Intersectionality is the combination of the above in individuals and groups. This is a big issue now and growing as the global population becomes more diverse in a "shrinking" world.

But being the melting pot and world leader, the US is at the forefront of demographic development and impact the population and world socially, politically and economically.

Tiger Woods was the former poster child. Now it is Kamala Harris.

This is a trend to watch. The post is of interest in this regard. And it goes hand in hand with the clash between liberalism and traditionalism, in which the US is now front and center.

It is not going to be smooth sailing, if Mike Pompeo's departing words that America is not a multicultural nation are any indication.

Multiculturalism was coined in Canada in the 1970s. It was not intended to be exported. The rest of the world is well-advised to develop their own policies.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiculturalism_in_Canada

The Canadian federal government has been described as the instigator of multiculturalism as an ideology because of its public emphasis on the social importance of immigration.

The US and Canada are not examples to be followed, since they were developed through immigration. Well-meaning attempts to impose this on the rest of the world (i.e. non immigrant countries) will end in sorrow.

US will just withhold USD aid until they do then what? It’ll be either multiculturalize or say good bye to your USDs... you know which way it’s going to go... lock it...

The imposition comes from academia, Matt.

Right. Those issues are being worked out here in North America, and they are not quite bug-free and ready for export yet.

Theosis, or deification (deification may also refer to apotheosis, lit. "making divine"), is a transformative process whose aim is likeness to or union with God, as taught by the Eastern Orthodox Church and Eastern Catholic Churches.... As a process of transformation, theosis is brought about by the effects of catharsis ... Thus the doctrine avoids pantheism while partially accepting Neoplatonism's terms and general concepts, but not its substance (see Plotinus).[5]“

Catharsis is adjustment... it’s not a synthesis... if you “partially accept” platonism (synthesis) you still accept platonism...

Paul was not a Platonist philosopher using the dialogic method.. . he taught didactically... he self identified in Scripture as a didactikon...

Some translations have that as “you shall be as God, knowing good and evil” iow God is singular...

There are other scriptures that say the serpent has no truth in him... so that statement from the serpent is false... God is not knowing “good and evil”... God is only knowing good now you can see that via the accounts of Christ’s (the complement of the Diety) life.. ... “knowing good and evil” symbolizes the establishment of the dialectic in mankind via reason/dialogic method...

So mankind has contrary characteristics... evil/good, truthful/falseness, etc... trying to work this out via dialogue between us doesn’t work... it’s not supposed to..it’s a demonstrative failure.. like the rote method that failed with Israel, probably others before the flood...

This all is not a behavior modification program... it’s an educational program...

Matt Franko said...

Here: “ Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.”

That “you shall be as God knowing good and evil....” statement is false... there is something there that makes it false... we’re created in the image of god so that part is true... iow we are “as God”, but it’s false to describe god as currently knowing good and evil... WE know good and evil but currently god does not...

Matt Franko said...

Here Tom:

“ Isaiah 45:7
“I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.”

Creation is thru division here... creation takes place either thru division or recombination...

The Hebrew is elohim, plural of god (sg. eloah).

Elohim appears elsewhere.

For example, in Genesis 1:26, it is written: "Then Elohim (translated as God) said (singular verb), 'Let us (plural) make (plural verb) man in our (plural) image, after our (plural) likeness'".

See Wikipedia/Elohim

lastgreek will now explain to us the difference between theosis and henosis (I see a religious war brewing here...)

Henosis (Ancient Greek: ἕνωσις) is the classical Greek word for mystical "oneness", "union" or "unity". In Platonism, and especially Neoplatonism, the goal of henosis is union with what is fundamental in reality: the One (Τὸ Ἕν), the Source, or Monad. The Neoplatonic concept has precedents in the Greek mystery religions as well as parallels in Eastern philosophy. It is further developed in the Corpus Hermeticum, in Christian theology, Alevism, soteriology and mysticism, and is an important factor in the historical development of monotheism during Late Antiquity.

Also, don't forget Kenosis:

In Christian theology, kenosis (Greek: κένωσις, kénōsis, lit. [the act of emptying]) is the 'self-emptying' of Jesus' own will and becoming entirely receptive to God's divine will.

The word ἐκένωσεν (ekénōsen) is used in Philippians 2:7, "[Jesus] made himself nothing ..."[Phil. 2:7] (NIV) or "...[he] emptied himself..."[Phil. 2:7] (NRSV), using the verb form κενόω (kenóō) "to empty".

On the subject of mystical union, a little Rumi here:

So you want Union?
Union is not something found on the ground
or purchased at the marketplace.
Union comes only at the cost of life.
Otherwise, everyone and his brother
would have this union.

Matt Franko said...

“Then Elohim (translated as God) said (singular verb), 'Let us (plural) make (plural verb) man in our (plural) image, after our (plural) likeness'".

He’s talking to other authorities he already divided out of himself Tom..,

Man and then mankind out of the man is a representation of the whole set...

I’d have to draw you a Venn diagram out of Paul’s teachings...

OK, let's go to Genesis 1:1.

In the beginning Elohim [pl.] created [sg.] hashomayim (the heavens, Himel) and haaretz (the earth). In the beginning Elohim [pl.] created [sg.] hashomayim (the heavens, Himel) and haaretz (the earth).

BTW, these words and concepts and related ones, are debated at length in the history of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and in academia. It is unlikely we are going to arrive at a definitive resolution that is compelling. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. YMMV.

BTW, I was making a joke about theosis. It is also a concept that has been, lets's say controversial, in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam and among scholars for along time, too. People have been killed over it.

Tom Hickey said...

BTW the quote of Genesis 1:1 is from the Orthodox Jewish Bible.

Bereshis 1:1, Orthodox Jewish Bible (Bereshis = Genesis.

Berreshit means "creation."

Tom Hickey said...

Theosis, henosis, and kenosis are important theological concepts in Orthodoxy but not in either Roman Catholicism or Protestantism. This links Orthodoxy with Qabalah, Sufism, Zoroasterian illuminationism, Greek mysticism and the Western esotericism that grew out of it, American Transcendentalism, and Eastern traditions in general. (This is not a comprehensive list.)

These are again rising in importance in the West now.

In fact, it’s become a thing (trend) globally that has vast implications for collective consciousness.

Matt Franko said...

I know... that side of the academe is dialogic.., so they are going to debate by definition,,, we on the other side of the academe have only been at it since 1860... you guys have been at it since eve ate the apple...

They probably both went evangelical at some point..,

Matt Franko said...

Tom, to the extent that there is going to be in prophesy a 1,000 year “reign of Christ” (the scriptural ‘millennial reign of Christ’) that is going to be characterized by a purging of the dialogic method from planet earth for 1,000 years.., it’s going to be a really good time.., nothing but truth and competency, no hypocrisy at all... still doesn’t look like that will be for a while though.., dialogic morons still in control obviously...

Pompeo and his ilk appear to think it involves the literal building of a temple structure (reification error) ... seems like we’re going to have to find that is incorrect via the usual hard way... a lot of dead humans as usual..

Tom Hickey said...

More like they are trying to start a war in the ME to make Jesus come again. Like Jesus is just waiting for them to create the conditions to fulfill a prophecy.

Ahmed Fares said...

Matt,

"...they want to build a literal temple in Jerusalem to provoke a literal war..."

They can't. They ran out of red heifer ashes.

As Lott read the Bible that day, he realized that the Second Coming and the fate of humankind now depended on the red heifer. In order for the Jews to rebuild the Temple and prepare the way for the return of the Messiah they must be purified with the ashes of a red heifer.

A qualified red heifer has not been found in Israel in almost two thousand years. And yet red cattle are not really so unusual in the United States.

In the fall of 1994, Richman went to Mississippi to examine four freshly washed and groomed heifers that Lott had produced for his inspection. The Talmud states that even two hairs that are not red would be enough to disqualify a candidate. One of the cows immediately caught Richman’s eye. “He didn’t even look at the three others,” Lott recalls. “He walked into that pen with that heifer tied to the back of that stall, and he just stopped for a few minutes to appraise her from one end to the other. Then he walked right up to that heifer within a matter of inches, and he looked down at her, then he went back four or five feet and just stared at her.” Finally, Richman placed his hand on the animal, which Lott’s daughter, who was then six, had named Dixie. “This is the heifer that will change the world,” Richman said.

Forcing the End
Why do a Pentecostal cattle breeder from Mississippi and an Orthodox rabbi from Jerusalem believe that a red heifer can change the world?

More like they are trying to start a war in the ME to make Jesus come again. Tom Hickey

Alas, you who are longing for the day of the Lord,
For what purpose will the day of the Lord be to you?
It will be darkness and not light;
As when a man flees from a lion
And a bear meets him,
Or goes home, leans his hand against the wall
And a snake bites him.
Will not the day of the Lord be darkness instead of light,
Even gloom with no brightness in it?

“I hate, I reject your festivals,
Nor do I delight in your solemn assemblies.
“Even though you offer up to Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them;
And I will not even look at the peace offerings of your fatlings.
“Take away from Me the noise of your songs;
I will not even listen to the sound of your harps.

But let justice roll down like waters
And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
Amos 5:18-24 New American

Besides which, individual Christians see Jesus soon enough when THEY die.

Exporting your history to other countries is a horrible idea. The experience of North America is unsuitable for Europe, Russia, India, China, and Japan. It may be a good model for colonizing Antarctica.

If it is not imposed, then people in other places will adopt what is useful and enjoyable, and they will also adapt it to their cultures.

The US does this all time, mainly through immigration influencing culture. While importation of slaves was not exactly immigration, the African and to some degree Asian influence in the arts, music in particular, and also sports has been huge. Some of this influence as come indirectly by way of Latin America and the Caribbean, like Jamaica.

lastgreek,

Sorry if my comment was offensive to you in any way. It was my lame attempt at humor. I should have just asked the question directly instead of trying to be funny.

Wikipedia was saying that there was a difference between the two terms which I couldn't see despite reading it a number of times (I'm more familiar with the term "henosis"). In any event, Tom Hickey's answer made it perfectly clear.

Again, sorry.

Tom, immigration policies are being imposed. Europe may be the first to experience a backlash. Other countries are not so foolish as to acquiesce to this model.

Tom Hickey said...

Now that it has come up, a nutshell explanation of theosis, henosis and kenosis.

The Greek suffixosis is factive or causative. It is o as a verb form, ands nominal suffix 'sis, which makes a noun form.

Theosmeans "god" (from Sanskrit deva, PIE dhes). "Theosis" and "apotheosis" mean deification in English. Theosis and apotheosis can also be rendered as to make divine. In mystical theology, there are varieties of theosis.

Hen means "one." "Henosis" means unification in English. This means realizing God as the only reality. This is called nondualism. It is one variety of theosis. Nondualism is considered heretical in normative institutional Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, since it is incorrectly equated with pantheism, whereas in most mystical tradition nondualism is panentheistic. It is characteristic of some schools of Eastern spiritual traditions, where it is normative.

Kenis a verb root meaning to empty. "Kenosis" means "nullification" in English. This is a means of realizing union with the infinite through nullification of the finite. This is the via negativa of apophatic theology.

The theological issues involve conceptual models, where as from the mystical POV they involve possible experience and the means of realizing such experience.

Ahmed Fares said...

Tom,

Thank you for the detailed explanation. Sometimes two terms can refer to the same idea while at other times there are slight but important differences.
