For what it's worth...I went to a biotech conference these past two days and all I heard the attendees talking about was gold. Maybe short term top at the least. BTW...I am long USDJPY, so kinda the same position as you.
And there it is, Mike. The IRS opened electronic filing on Jan. 19, but all the W-2's and 1099's weren't out until last week. Looks like the IRS might have held back a few of the earliest refunds and has now released all of the first batch that filed through last week.
Seeing this disjointed flow makes me wonder if maybe the IRS is going to be paying refunds in large batches instead of maintaining a regular daily flow. Might be related to budget issues with the agency not filling vacancies and having a bunch of retirements. Work loads are being increased for all frontline workers. This from an IRS employee I know who said she was in two days of meetings about these issues.
