Jonathan Bernstein — How to Keep Steve Bannon Out of the White House

This news cycle has been dominated by the firestorm over the appointment of Steve Bannon as WH "chief strategist" at the same time as the appointment of Reince Priebus as WH chief of staff, suggesting dual roles.

Most of the reaction has been just that. Jonathan Bernstein suggests a plan for involving getting all member of Congress on record about ti and Democrats and NeverTrump Republicans in Congress to oppose it by obstructing Trump's agenda until he fires Bannon.

While the furor is raging around Bannon personally, in the larger context Bannon is a symbol of the alt-right and his elevation sends a signal reverberating through the social and political network that constitutes global society. Trump knows this. This is the most important thing in my estimation.

Incidentally, it not insignificant that this appears at Bloomberg.

I have to admit that I am not a right winger and I don't know who Steve Bannon is. So, what is he really like, is it that the media don't like him or is he really a nut job?

GLH,

Recent post election discussion by altright which is the demographic Bannon is part of and is appealing to:

Looked at as a growth area for media with lots of subscribers... liberal left in decline their ratings are in toilet and no subscribers they subsist on subsidy...

I think Bannon was a good choice for political adviser. I am not so happy about Priebus at Chief of Staff, however. He's too close to that weasel, Ryan.

Bannon is in good company. ANYONE who is pro Trump is labeled as a racist, sexist, xenophobe, bigot, fascist, blah, blah, blah.

WSWS is simply parroting shoddy journalistic, ruling class talking points.

Bannon is a great choice. Look at the faux left's reaction to confirm the brilliance of the choice.

I think that is almost obviously true or DJT would not have picked him. He is entitled to pick who he wants. When it doesn't involve Senate confirmation the president has a free hand.

But there are tradeoffs. Bannon's appointment has a lot of baggage he begins along socially and politically owing to his history. Not only was he Breitbart chief but he is on record as saying some politically and socially incorrect things.

But the real issue swirling around Bannon is the alt-right connection. When the head of the KKK, the leader of the American Nazi Party, and David Duke enthusiastically congratulate Trump for appointing Bannon and there is no disavowal, then the signal is strongly amplified.

This Is not a left right thing. Ron Paul is not amused at what he perceives as a swing toward authoritarianism. The GOP-Libertarian thing seems to be waning. Even Glenn Beck is freaking out.

This is upsetting a lot of people in the US and Europe — the liberal world. This is especially the case when Breitbart is now talking about exporting its air-right message to Europe by opening offices there. Marine Le Pen has rolled out the welcome mat.

It is also being heard by the rest of the world, which is overwhelmingly non-white.

One can argue that the perception is wrong, but it is now out there, and DJT is going to have to deal with it, or not..

There are basically two ways of viewing this. The first to to brush it off as being much more extreme than it is, based on association of a "few bad apples" like the KKK, Nazi Party, and David Duke. The second is to see it as reminiscent of the rise of Hitler and Mussolini.

So this issue is not likely to go away soon and it will be exploited by the opposition. Trump has decided to take on the establishment domestically and internationally, do he is obviously aware that this is war and they will mount their biggest guns to shoot him down. They will pick this up as free ammunition.

It's also clear that from the way that DJT ran his campaign that he agrees that perception is reality. This is going to be all about perception and the next election, not only in the US but the UK, France, Germany and many other countries, too.

DJT has shaken the world, and when the world is shaken people wake up. Some are going to like what they see and other will fight back.

This is tussle of competing elites. Neither Trump nor Bannon are part of the 99%. Now it is matter of different elite factions lining but the troops of voters to determine who wins the "democratic" game under political liberalism that is dominated by economic liberalism.

As soon as Trump won, the ruling class blowhards were acting out hysterically. NOTHING he does as president will be welcomed by these zealots. Bannon is a nothingburger. He isn't what the Wikileaks exposed MSM and DNC is making him out to be. It's simply red meat for those who are blinded by their ideology. Watching the media's idiotic machinations actually strengthens Trump. This is a civil war to the elites, and it's only just the beginning. Yellow journalism will only hurt the lefties even more, so I hope they keep it up. The country will go fully red by 2020 at this rate.

I get a kick out of Trump's enemies telling him how to run things. Had he listened to their advice, Hillary would be pres-elect. Trump hasn't even been sworn in an the crybaby press corp are doing cartwheels at every Trump utterance. Yet Trump just keeps on being Trump poking them in the eye every step of the way. I'm loving every minute of this. Best election and post election ever.

Oh, and to all those not getting how winning works--to the winner goes the spoils.

They have just been abandoned in an instant Tom... Alex Jones, Peter Theil, etc all going alt-right...

a lot of these (former?) libertarians just like it was like throwing a switch and poof they are now alt-right... seems to have coincided with Theil being outed as a gay man by Gawker... maybe Theil is now 'alt-gay' with Milo...

Jones epiphany seems to have occurred with the crash in the gold... he had to convert from gold selling over to prepping which then evolved now into nutritional supplements and so forth...

Beck seems to have stuck with the gold for now but his whole thing is circling the toilet bowl.... he loses Tomi Lahren to some new alt-right thing and Beck will go from last libertarian standing to toast probably...

The front page story of the Cedar Rapids Gazette was that hate message was pinned on a Muslim family's door, with a big color photo of the family.

Will some people make a connection, justified or not? Of course.

BTW, the Gazette is a conservative paper. Cedar Rapids is the 2nd largest city in Iowa.

Tom,

So far the hate message, violence thing is being overwhelmingly won by anti Trumpers. Many so called Trump violence/hate reports have been exposed as hoaxes.

Winners don't generally take time to hate. They're far to enraptured with celebrating. Losers, on the other hand, hate with a vengeance and lie with a vengeance and commit violence with a vengeance. At least leftist losers do it that way..

Mal this is probably a hoax too but it is still funny, guy gets zapped by electric Trump sign:

Hyperinflation never happened. People needs to seek new alternative and seemingly coherent explanations to what they feel is the world (or their world) going wrongly.

Almost everybody on the fringe blames bankers and Wall St. at least, that much is transparent to anyone in the political spectrum except the 'extreme centrists' (aka neolibs), but other things are up for grabs (be it 'capitalists', 'mexicans' or 'Putin', pick one).

The looming White House guerilla war between Priebus and Bannon and the son-in-law is going to get very ugly. The only thing they agree on is disliking Chris Christie (which meant firing the transition team he'd been working with for months and starting from scratch). It's going to be brutal. Not sure, frankly, who of the three to root for.
