Every single one of China's top state run news sites are covering the importance of US economic cooperation on climate. China has made a larger investment in research and industrial production than the US. Speculation, but Obama probably assured Xi the US would buy the products and the Chinese are furious that Trump sounds like he is reneging but if he does I think China will corner the US using Chinese dominance in the sector. The US doesn't really have significant technology or production capabilities, we're completely dependent on China to meet the treaty obligations.
