"His most important appointment so far, either lay or religious, is Cardinal George Pell, an Australian whom he recruited from the archdiocese of Sydney. Pell now heads the newly formed Secretariat for the Economy, and Pope Francis has granted Pell power over finances that no official has remotely held before. "

This Pell is the guy who thinks humans descended from the Neanderthals....

"There was no ambiguity about the job ahead. “The Holy Father’s message was crystal clear: ‘Let us make money to go to the poor,’”

The "church" has no authority whatsoever to make "money"... never had it, never will... sorry Pope you are heading an institution that has no such authority and will fail...

Instead you should be lambasting the institution that does have this authority, telling the morons occupying positions within that institution to do a better job of it....

By treaty, The Vatican produces Euro coins that circulate as any other Euro does even though the vatican technically isn't a member of EU. They Euros replaced the old vatican lira that circulated. The Philatelic and Numismatic Office in the Vatican also produces postage stamps and precious metal coins as any sovereign would.
